So my SA says she thinks it was the Hydro Unit for the DCT that they had to wait 6 weeks for to be replaced. The dealership sold the car so she can't track down the service records now she said.

Anybody know what Hydro Unit is?

There is a Hydro unit for the DSC but not DCT
It almost would make more sense (if at all) this being replaced with some sort of problem around cruise control.
There have been a few failures in the past on E9x and F10s but I've not heard anything about a systematic issue around cruise control and causing issues with either DCT or DSC.
Until there's a bulletin I put this into the unconfirmed rumor bucket

Sorry, but this story does not sound plausible at all.

Thinking about this.......all the CC does is take control of the electronic throttle pedal and modulate the throttle to maintain the set speed.

The above is exactly what is done when the CC is turned off, except the throttle is modulated with a foot.

Why should one break the gearbox when the other doesn't?

Until I hear some plausible link I think the SA hasn't got a clue. How do they establish that the box broke in CC mode? Unless the car comes to a grinding halt whilst in CC, how do you link the cause to CC?

So...what's the story here? I'm a little concerned with this thread...I have several trips out of town planned in the coming future and want to know if me using my cruise control poses a real risk.

I'll try and get more detailed info from her tomorrow. I'm taking my M5 in for it's first servicing tomorrow.

Have you heard anything about this since that day? I hate to keep bumping this thread but I'm fairly concerned about this since I do occasionally plan on using cruise control...

If it makes you feel any better, when I first got my beast.. I think I was on cruise control for around 2,000 - 4,000 miles (Phoenix <-> Dallas, San Antonio, etc..) - and I have no issues with DCT whatsoever. Just need some new wheel bearings and my brakes have to be replaced, but I'm pretty sure that's unrelated.

CC should not affect the tranny in any way. Something doesn't add up.
