Black Tails or "What else to do on a sunny Tuesday?" (Thank you, Nate @IND)
With some major blisters on my fingers from pulling these pieces off the stock system, overall very happy with the result. Likely, though, only a temporary fix before I move on to slightly larger carbon pieces or an Akrapovic altogether - will see how I feel about it in a week or so.
Thank you, Nate @NID, for your superior customer service (as always). H |

Looks great. Are those oem tips? What color are they? Gloss black?

Do the stock tip "just" pull off?
Also, where'd you get the magic plate that keeps changing numbers? I want one! Must make it real easy to get out of tickets!!!

I especially love that you went to a random abandoned parking lot to perform this operation.

They pull right off (just have a stron grip) and slide the new ones on (make sure the seam/weld is centered correctly)
Since they are from IND I am assuming these are powder coated OEM tips

Sorry for the late replies. Yes, black gloss OEM tips powdercoated by IND in the exact same size as the original chrome stock tips. I first wanted to get the matte black ones but I didn't want to wait for 10 days.
But since many of the other black details are gloss too (front and fender grills, door frames etc.), it actually looks quite good. The black matte might be more suitable for the frosted paint jobs. @mwlmd As for the random parking lot ;-) That's my company's parking lot and I was so eager to try this out that I couldn't wait to get home. The 76mm size is indeed a tiny little bit small if you stare at them for about an hour. That's also why I really want to get into the Acrapovic (just don't like the logo on it). Now as to putting them on: It is indeed "just" pulling them off. Two came of with just brute force. But I don't know what I did because the two others were literally baked onto the endpipes and it was an hour long struggle to get them off. Slipping the new ones on was quite simple, you just have to be careful not to push them in too far as the little lip that is supposed to hold them in place is so flimsy that its easy to bend further push the tips in. |

Did you try to slide them off when the exhaust was cold / warm / hot?
I can tell you [from my experience on installing the same M5 tips from IND back at Christmas] that twisting to slide off is your friend if you get one that is on there very tight. When you twist it is going to sound/feel like fingernails across a chalk board. If you slide them on too far and over compress the tabs, just slide it back off and take a flathead screwdriver and push the tab back up. |

@johntomferg, the exhaust was completely cooled off. It felt like my driving had baked the exhaust tips to the end pipes. There was no way in twisting these things of. I didn't want to use tools so not to damage or scratch anything. So I put on my grip gloves and went at it. It was literally just brute force of janking them left right up and down and severe pulling and pushing that caused them to come off after about 30mins. But in the end it worked ;-) Might be better to do that after 200 miles rather than 2000.
