brake dust on m5
I just picked up the 2014 bmw m5 a few days ago and I love it. but I was wondering whats the best for cleaning the rims. the break dust is crazy and I was wondering what you guys used to clean them and if you used anything like a protectant to make the brake dust less.
I didn't get the ceramic brakes because im not taking it to the track often, if ever, but I heard they have less brake dust and maybe if I get the 2015 model next year I may have to upgrade to them. just wanted to get everyone opinions and thoughts. Thanks! also im new so if this is in the wrong thread im sorry! Last edited by bmwatts; 08-19-2013 at 03:56 PM.. Reason: thread question |

No, just kidding. :P Yes wrong section of the forum, but whatever, the moderators will move it anyway. I just wipe mine down with wheel cleaner or detailer/water. I Opti-Coated my wheels a while back so I guess the dust doesn't stick as bad.

Wheel Wax or OptiCoat is a good option to lower the maintenance. Best option is to powder coat them graphite (or similar color) and never see the dirt again.

I purchase hand car wash season pass and drive there whenever I feel like to have them cleaned, of course, during their business hour.

I tried Armor All Wheel Protectant/Dust Repellent based on some reviews but it did not work on my M5 wheels although I strictly followed the instructions. I also tried the BDR Brake Dust Repellent which also failed to repel brake dust -- maybe, I was trying too much to look for a "non-existent" product which completely repels brake dust. What I found out though, is that the BDR product, unlike the Armor All, made dusting off the brake dust much easier with just the use of a hand brush. I am still looking for that great Brake Dust Repellent but will continue to use the BDR product as I ordered several bottles.

Nothing will repel brake dust, if you opticoat them (for example), it will still have brake dust on the wheels, but to make the dust wash off easier as dust will not bake onto the wheels.

Best cleaner that you can use for these wheels is Sonax Full-Effect Wheel Cleaner. Once properly cleaned, having a professional apply opti-coat pro for easy maintenance in the future.
www.detailersdomain.com for the wheel cleaner. -Kody- |
