Correct.
Been looking for a pic showing the underlying design for the pre-LIC F10 wheel. Edit: here is what yours look like. Sending all of this stuff to my buddy to inquire. Last edited by v12; 03-03-2014 at 09:15 AM.. |

@RPI the man V12 is on board. cup holders to paddles
@v12 you sure the M6 paddles won't fit the pre-LCI F10 M5? The black base looks kind of similar to the pre-LCI M5 doesn't it?

@avlnch: I had never looked into this until 20 mns ago
I could be wrong. Found and put up a pic of what the underlying design looks like for the pre-LCI steering wheel. Anyone doing this, would have to design longer paddles (to match the M6 or longer?) but in aluminum (with black aluminum as an option too) and retain the receptacle/ base design holding the electronics so it can be affixed like the OEM ones. For me, the M5 is already at the upper end of performance for a super sedan -- with more power, I think I would only get in trouble. Most of my dream list revolves around luxury and tech updates.
dynamic rear axle steering and inner rear wheel braking Variable distribution all wheel drive Dynamic, self-inflating side bolsters a valet mode, where the car wont go above around 3500 RPM and 30 mph. Fully customizable, non-baffled exhaust -- options to open or close valves, to have "piped noise" on or not. On that -- if you can add noise, why not put in a form of active noise cancelling for when you want it absolutely quiet? It would be nice for taking a phone call or having a conversation. Full IPS instrument panel - New vette, Porsche, LFA, other are really jumping on some amazing display tech that BMW could easily integrate right now with the correct screen. carbon fiber trim as a option -- every other M now has it, why not the 5? contrast stitching options like in the M6 and the new M3/4 without the exorbitant individual cost. a no sunroof CF option a spare tire OEM that fits - sell it as an accessory, I don't care... there's just some times I want that thing in the trunk when I am driving in the middle of nowhere. digital display of oil temp front radar vs camera sensing of vehicles realtime map and speed limits updates over cell network ala Waze. full iOS integration to actually show mirror iphone display on center panel. Much bigger HD for lossless files front camera to be included in the surround view ala the new X5 car already has front camera/gps/HD and an emergency sensing system... why not have a realtime recording system in case of crash/robbery/etc? If the car kept a 2 minute buffer of the 4 surround cameras along with position/performance/speed/time specs it could be a valuable resource. As for the paddles, I am sure that if there was enough demand these guys could make them... IND and EAS both sell their products: http://www.bmwpedals.com/paddles.html Anyways, Monday morning dreaming over...

Ha! Yes! But I was thinking since BMW already has a 6.0L V12 Twin Turbo in their line up (ala 760Li!) ///M should have taken that design and reworked it into an ///M Engine. Now that would have been epic. Fuel Economy be damned!

@ B-1 Pilot: Apple CarPlay has been announced today.
https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ BMW is on board but apparently isn't ready yet. Apple has officially announced CarPlay, its new in-car interface that'll be compatible with new Ferrari, Mercedes and Volvo cars unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show this week. Designed "from the ground up" to bridge the gap between your iPhone and your auto, it will offer touch and Siri-based voice navigation of your smartphone services, including contacts, voicemail, notifications, map directions and music cueing -- it will even support third-party apps like Spotify and iHeartRadio from launch. Voice controls will be activated by a button on the steering wheel, while the in-car touchscreen is populated with those familiar iOS 7 icons for easy access. The service will launch as an iOS update for Lightning-enabled iPhones (that's iPhone 5 and up), with CarPlay-compatible vehicles launching later this year. And if any of the above aren't your preferred automaker, Apple says that you can expect compatible cars from BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and several more in the near future. |

I thought BMW was interested in only the SIRI feature. Which they did integrate into 2014 models (hold down the steering wheel voice button to get SIRI).
I like BMW's iDrive much better than iOS In The Car. BMW invested a lot into making iDrive what it is today (the best car platform out there). It would be great to integrate more of iOS into iDrive.. but I wouldn't want iOS to replace iDrive. @B1-Pilot you can get digital readouts of oil and coolant by accessing the hidden dash menu, or by purchasing and installing a P3Gauge.

I agree (BMW/ iOS comments). Interestingly, BMW runs a customized version of QNX which belongs to Blackberry and is based on Linux http://www.qnx.com/company/customer_stories/ |

Linux is the perfect OS for iDrive. Didn't know about blackberry's involvement though. That's interesting.

Well blackberry merely owns QNX, the real source of the automotive software... the news recently made the rounds that Ford was dumping Microsoft Sync for the blackberry owned QNX solution as well.

You really shouldn't let that stop you. A good set of winters and you're totally fine. I cant imagine not buying an M5 just because its not AWD.

That's actually on the m6 and m6 GC. Not available as an option for the m5 it is a shame. But you could get it after purchase bmw does sell it under bmw performance parts and so does IND does too and it says bmw M performance on the carbon fiber trim

I like a lot of what you guys wish the car came with stock. But some are unrealistic.
But I am going to be realistic of what they could of done for the m5. -A carbon fiber roof like the m3 and m6/GC. - Carbon fiber as an option trim instead of after purchase through bmw m performance parts -Cheaper Competition package, $7,700 is a bit pricey. -Choice of color of brake calipers for non ceramic brake calipers. (Not that the blue looks bad, it is great) Just it be cool if we could have a choice as an option. -Seats like the M6 AND M6 GC. (These seats are still nice) and NEW m3/m4 -Lastly a hood scoop to represent the v8 like the LCI X6M did. or like the e9x m3 did. One last thing but its unrealistic BUT I wish We could choose to have a V10 or V8 turbo with similar horsepower. - |
