1200 mile service and reduced power "break-in mode"
there has been back and forth regarding the 1200 mile service. My car went in for the 1200 mile service and the dealer confirmed "break-in mode" will be deactivated. Full power and torque are released after the service. The engine and transmission fluid are changed as well as the oil.... Thanks to all who had provided the information.. enjoy your rides..

Did your dealer ever say how much power & tq was held back ?
30% or more ? I felt mine was just giving out about 2/3 of the car's power, as I was driving a 550 on econcomy mode. |

I believe this to be bunk. They wouldn't be able to get 527 wheel hp on a Dyno PRIOR to 1200 mile service if this were true.

Is there a service tech on here to make or break the notion. It's possible it could just mean full capabilities interpreted as full power. Is launch mode active during the break in period?

just telling you what the dealer told me as well as what other customers and ED cars were told while over in Germany.... i'll see if i feel a difference when i get the car back as i really didn't follow the break-in procedures... The dealer said the car is down approximately 25% of power during the break-in period.. I didn't think the car threw you back in your seat as i expected...

Agreed. Hopefully there is more power after the break in service. |

Didn't notice any difference on mine, the service advisor said nothing in regards to performance written on the 1st service bulletin.
Exact same power from day 1, and I did open her up a dozen time during break in. I say it's a myth, perhaps this is only referring for E60 M5s. |

Waiting on getting mine back from the dealership after the 1200 mile service. Apparently, someone stepped on the last filter in stock and they had to overnight another one. Didn't know the filters get replaced during this service appointment.

I call BS on the power being held back on the M5. I did ED, and went to the M Studio. The guy over NA sales, and South America said no its not true! Launch control is activated per the manual. Can't wait the Orange Crush will be here 9/26

This is the answer I got from the shop foreman "Engine power is limited when vehicle is in transport mode. When we dealer prep it, full engine power is available."

1200 Mi Svc & "Transportation Mode" aren't related
The shop foreman may have been confused. In transportation mode almost all electronic systems except those necessary to start and drive the car are deactivated. You can think of it as a modified "limp home mode." They're activated or reactivated at the VDC (or VPC as it's also been called). The software change at the 1,200 mile service is unrelated to the transportation mode. I don't know what the specific software changes are at the 1,200 mile sevice but I've been told that the engine performance changes are relatively minor.

1200 mile service
Picked up my m5 and now in Prague to get the 1200 miles service done and they were pretty much worthless. The "Service Manger" came out to my car and looked at the status on the car and said everything was normal but he did not know what the Break-In Period was and started to talk to me about brake pads.... I am going to go over the miles by a couple hundred to get back to Germany but after reading this I should be fine. I called and scheduled my service back in Germany and feel much better. Ill let you know how it goes.
