Viper vs the world at Pocono raceway (roll racing)

Sorry gents, not driving the M5 anymore, which I had last year at this event. But hey, who doesn't love a good roll race!!
It was definetly a fun day at the track with a great a diversity of cars and a great group of enthusiasts. There ended up being 3 Gen V Vipers there.

I had some issues with my gopro early in the day, but managed to capture a few good races.

I should note that my car reached 900 miles on the way to Pocono raceway...

vs Ferrari 458
I don't know what this guy was doing but didn't seem to want a re-do..


vs C7 Z06
Super nice guy with track experience. Said he had some cooling mods to the car but otherwise stock.


vs Porsche 997.2 Turbo S
One badass car. This later 997 has the PDK dual clutch tranny. Built by Champion Motorsports, with FBO and meth injection. 9 second car all day. This thing off the line is a complete animal. Also a super cool dude.
I think had we gone another gear I could have come back some...


vs 2008 Porsche Turbo
Another FBO car. This is an earlier gen 997 with a manual. Nice guy with a well prepped car. He said he had a Cobb tune, full header back exhaust, lightweight flywheel and clutch and intercoolers.


vs Gen 4 Procharged Mustang
FBO said the car made 650whp on a good day but prob 620 that day.

Yesterday I raced 2015 Z06 x3. He got the jump but once I was in Midrange I started pulling up on him but we ran out of room. He only had 3/4 car on me. I will post up the vid when his friend sends it to me. I lost the race since it was a short run but otherwise it showed how strong my car was pulling.

That makes sense. I ran a best of 149 at this event with a near 150, which I ran last year with the M5. Granted the M5 made 700 wheel
I will note that the driver of the Z06 was above average and powershifted which most owners don't do.

Yeah you guys at Mpact had higher traps last year... This year we were all sobered by start times as well. Lots of dudes leaving at faster speeds impacting their traps. 155 sounds way fast. My best was 150 and I had the fastest M5 ET of the day at 9 seconds. 5mph faster would mean you were making well over 750 wheel. Moe's car makes big power and I don't think he was anywhere near 155 this year. Maybe you and your car are ninjas!!

Great runs. I think you would have lost more ground if you both would have gone another gear vs the 997.2, the PDK just shifts so much faster than any manual....

Actually my trap speed was higher so I was making up ground and would have powershifted 5th and lost little ground.

Bro, those champion 911s trap 135mph in the 1/4.... He got a huge jump on you, are you sure he didn't let off after he clearly had u beat?

What are your 1/4 mile traps, if you had a chance to get em'?

My car has 900 miles on the clock.. Barely broken in. So nothing but what you see. This guy knew what he was doing and wasn't letting off the throttle till the cones. If you look closely, the 2nd and 3rd gear pulling stops right where the stock 997.2 turbo torque probably dies out and HP takes over for 4th gear right where the Viper's long legs thrive. In most of the races, if you notice the Viper pulls hardest in 4th.

His trap speed for that run was 147.25 and mine was 147.73.

That's interesting, I would think that the 911 would be between 5-7k rpms the whole race except maybe passed the initial cones.... Do you know if he was on stock turbos?

how much do you think you gained with the tune?

I believe he has the Champion Motorsport turbo upgrade. The guy told me he sends the car to them for revision each year..

My tune.. Maybe 20 to 30hp...

I imagine it is considerably quicker than your last s63tu with BMS!

I believe a tune only dct m5 on 93+ will run with your ecu'd viper , both trap ~ 130mph. Shifting needs to be perfect in the viper though....

Cool. I've been looking for this answer. Any roll racer than can put space on the M5 has my attention. Was the Vette stock?

Yeah Moe and I did one race last year and he edged me out. I was running with my BMS set at only 3.2psi the whole time but for my last few runs I was able to switch to a 100% high octane gas in my gas tank where as I had been running all day with a mix of 93 Octane and 103 Octane if I recall. It was one of my last runs of the day when I was racing someone else that I hit 155mph. I forget my time, but I was starting consistently between 50 and 60mph all day. Maybe it was higher DA for you guys this year with worse humidity? Although it was hot last year too.
