I am a loyal Porsche fan... I feel for these guys. How could this not have been discovered in the years of R&D?

I guess there will be a lot of fire sale GT3s ... ooopps I meant for sale GT3s.

I would not accept new engine placed in after the fact. This is only asking for trouble. Even worse if its done at the dealership... who knows what mech.mood of the day will be and what he will leave off or not tq.

Yep engine replacements resales will be avoided like the plague. However, it sounds like a vendor problem which doesn't mean all the cars are affected. My M5 was affected with the bad lot of oil pumps which was replaced at the PDC so no issues, but it freaked a lot of owners out. Will see how it all shakes out, and it slots start opening up(:

I don't think that this is just a long block replacement. There is speculation (hope?) on Rennlist that this will be a complete engine swap with inlet/exhaust manifold, etc. It is actually easy to drop the motor in a 911 and then also easy to install the brand new factory engine. This should mitigate the drop in value of the early cars.

Really sad that this is happening to Porsche and esp, the GT3 Was close to inking a deal to get one, but I am not exactly glad with the way things turned out. I still have a lot of love for that car and I have not even driven it yet. Still hope to own one a few years down the road. Hope they managed to fix it once and for all...

The one good thing is you know Porsche will stand behind the product!

No quick fix. Porsche is having to replace all the engines.

This is my understanding of what they will do too. But these cars will be out of action for a while.

Porsche has asked dealers to consult customers and offer personalized solutions. I suspect these solutions will range from:
- Loaner car of customers choice or financial compensation for lost usage
- Financial compensation for loss of value
- Extended powertrain warranty
- Full Price buy back

I'v been lurking around the GT3 forums lately, and most people will wait while the stealership drops in a new engine. While they wait they will be offered some other 911 to drive, up to a 991 turbo.

A smaller percentage of people is against this whole engine swap idea and are giving back the GT3 to the stealership, and getting in line for a 2015 GT3 allocation.

*SIDE NOTE* One of the new GT3 owners had his EPS go bad and it took them a long time to fix it (They had calibration problems), and finally the owner asked if he could just have his 2S back and let them keep the GT3. They accepted the deal.

So pretty much, the Porsche dealerships have to comply with the needs of the customers and even in some cases dance for them just to make every customer happy.

This is really sad to happen to Porsche, especially the GT3. This will only make the 2015 GT3 even harder to get, since many 2014 owners will likely opt for a 2015.

Agreed. Really sad.

The 991 GT3 is probably one of the greatest sports cars of our generation yet this whole event is a black stain upon its history now.

If I was a new 991 owner, I'd probably ask for a Porsche Turbo to cruise around in and wait patiently for them to fix my car and I'd also ask for generous compensation.

Hmmm... interesting - so assuming no one is dropping out from their allocation, will worldwide production now increase above the original 4000 (?) units?

Shame that this fault has occurred as looking less like a reasonable long term investment, even if you have a later build slot.

I respect Porsche for the fact that when they're not catching fire, are really great world beating products in their categories.

But I find it more than a little crazy that they're having *another* catching-on-fire issue so soon after they had it with the Panny/Cayenne Turbos.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...a-turbo-models

Surprised this wasn't a bigger deal in the news, frankly.

Anyway - bottom line - I would expect better from Porsche, and all due respect, I wouldn't go anywhere near a first year product from them.

The plot thickens!

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...-fix?fbfanpage

I'd be demanding A LOT from Porsche right now if I already had a GT3 just sitting in my garage for the past few months.

Porsche should have offered a years extra warranty (on the new GT3 engine fitted to the recalled Porsches) and offered compensation for the term of each owner's GT3's downtime. THEN, like every good brand does, they should speak to each customer and make sure they are satisfied and feel whole.

Instead they offered compensation packages based on market? They really thought that wouldn't backfire on them? Yikes..

Is there a difference in the 2014 vs the 2015 motor minus the broken parts? I just completed my build for a October build date(:Your Porsche Code http://www.porsche-code.com/PFRGWZK4? ...........

Well, in fairness, it isn't like there is an easy means for folks in different markets/countries to share information.

Exactly what avinch describes has been offered to me. My complaints are the quality of communication (abysmal) and timeline they are estimating for delivery (insanely long).

They are replacing bad engines in 2014 cars with new engines. To my knowledge, there is no difference between 2014 and 2015 engines, other than the fix.

did I tell you guys how happy I am that I gave up my slot and got a TT-S?

I couldn't imagine already being under contract or owning one that is grounded... I mentioned waaaaaaaaaaaay earlier in this thread that a friend got one and they gave him a panamera while the car is down. Who wants a panamera over a GT3? I didn't get into the financial reciprocation of his agreement though.
