It appears the part of the lip indicated by the arrows, just rests up against the existing bumper. Should this be touching the bumper surface? Is there something that can be done to stabilize that area and prevent the lip from rubbing/scraping the paint over time? Is there something to prevent the relatively sharp edge of the plastic from damaging the paint?

I can see all these cheap performance lips on Ebay, but they rarely ship to Sweden where I live. And if they do, the shipping price is way more than what the actual lip cost, and since I often ship stainless steel propellers to my boats from the US to Sweden I know that these shipping prices can't be right.
Anyone here willing to help me? I can order a performance lip from Ebay to your home address (I pay for everything ofc), and then you ship it to me in Sweden but for the actual shipping cost - which I pay for. Let me know if this sounds like a good idea Thanks Svensken (aka The Swede) PS. I have sent for a shipping quote from Selma, he will come back to me today with a price. Hopefully it's not too expensive... |

I emailed Selma and they said they don't sell it for $100 anymore.
They are selling it for $180 now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-3Series-...e=STRK:MESE:IT |

I've purchased two already from Selma. Both times i made an offer of $150 and he accepted both times. These are coming down in price ... Btw... the search engine in F30Post is worthless. I've used the exact phrase in the title before and it failed to produce the thread i was looking for. I always go to google now and precede my specific search terms with "f30 post" and it comes up spot on most of the time. |

would you say it's worth it to pay someone 75 to install it?

I'm a little bit of a control freak, so i'm probably not the best one to ask, but if this is your first go at it, you're probably going to save yourself a couple of hours of work just trying to figure out where everything is for the first time. $75 sounds like an amazing price, given what Fronzdan said, provided they know what they are doing. You didn't meet this installer in a back alley somewhere did you? |

The body shop that did mine when they installed the Msport bumper did a crap job. It was popping up in the corner because they used the crap tape that came with it. This is a body shop that does the local exotics so you would think they knew better. Follow the DIY that squid or I did and that thing won't come off unless you want it too. I remove mine in the winter and its not easy. It will come off without damaging the paint but takes some heat. The thing that took me the longest time was peeling the old tape off, sanding it down and installing the new tape with adhesive promoter on the lip. Do not use the promoter on the paint (car). The tape will stick just fine on the paint. Takes two minutes to stick it on. I did not use the pop rivets like Squid did. I went to buy them and the dealer gave me the wrong parts and I just never went back to get the right ones. Any questions just ask. |

So I got my lip from Selma today, looks great, began the prep work and hoping to install the lip tomorrow
Couple of questions for squidlyboy and Dippydo 1. Where do you get adhesive promoter from? something like this http://www.autozone.com/paint-and-bo...primer/460112/ 2. Looked underneath the car...saw a few of the rivets already installed on the stock bumper. Do I pop off the rivets that attach the bumper to the car already and replace them with the new rivets that will attach the lip to the bumper? 3. Are the rivets necessary to put on? pics for attention:

1. Thats the exact one i got. i didn't find that 3M brand that Dippy suggested (went to Lowes/Home Depot), so i ended up running into my local AutoZone and got that one.
2. Generally, if a rivet is already there (and can be removed) in the hole that will be used to attach the lip to the bumper, i would just re-use it... as long as it is long enough to take the extra thickness of the lip and attach back into the hole in the same way and in a secure fashion. You'll be able to tell fairly easy if the rivet can be re-used. I hesitate to say for sure because it seems like some people's bumpers and attached hardware are very different than what i found on mine. 3. You need _something_ to hold the lip to the bumper. The expanding rivets seem to best thing i've found, in addition to being convenient as they are removable/re-usable with just some needle nose pliers. |

1. Interesting. I never tried that one or saw it that Squid recommended. If he says it works then go for it since you can buy it local. I had to order what I used since I was too lazy to drive around to bodyshops looking for what I used. Here is what I used. It is developed specifically for the 3m tape. Once you stick the tape to it, the tape will not come off in one piece any longer. Its that strong.
http://www.amazon.com/3M-pack-ADHESI...52E3ERQ646WAE3 2. I didn't have any rivets in the way of the lip. So not sure. If you have some there that are lined up with the holes, then definitely pull them and reuse them but I didnt have any. 3. I haven't used any rivets. I bought them, but the parts guy gave me the wrong ones so I went without. Still tight as the first day I put it on and I hit the speed limiter on our cruises on many occasions. Never hurts and I would have put them on if I was given the right ones. LOL.. |

Thanks to both of you guys squidlyboy and Dippydo. I finished the install today, I did purchase the adhesion promoter, added extra double sided tape. However, apparently the rivets I purchased were too small as well and didn't go through both the lip and bumper. I will see if I can purchase longer ones. I wonder if there is another PN for the rivets since it looks like both me and Dippy purchased the wrong ones.
Also, I want to drill a hole through the bumper for the two screws in the center support, haven't done that yet. Have tested the lip at 80MPH and no issues. Fitment wasn't perfect and I'm going to say that is because both my lip and bumper are non-oem, but it is about an 7-8/10. I can live with that.

Thats lookin' pretty dope bro Very nice work indeed
I'm just curious... which rivets do you have? The ones on the left or the right or something entirely different? I'm using the ones on the left. I brought in one of the rivets used on my originally (dealership) installed OEM m-performance lip to the parts dept, and they matched it up to the 51118174185. And thats what i'm using now on my new Selma lip. I like them because they are removable/reusable with some needle nose pliers and super easy to work with. The rivets to the right are the ones from the BMW install guide for the OEM m-performance lip (part #7002953). They are way different. They are like typical pop rivets where once you install them, the bottom flares out, and the top of the pin breaks off. They are somewhat permanent, so to take them out, you gotta drill out the pin. |
