Canna lilies. They are part of my Winter experiment as they are tropical plants. They will only grow on the south side of the house in a protected area. They will produce a vibrant red flower.

Mint and Basil. I love that restaurant. Best Old Fashioned in Ventura County.
Is cilantro a herb?

We have a very small grass patch that got trampled when we had a new studio built last fall. I couldn’t stand the mud, it’s what you see as soon as you pull down the driveway.
I figured I’d sod it but thought I’d try seeding it first (still thought I’d sod it because the grass would never grow. I tried raking it but couldn’t get the tines in deep enough so I used one of those hand “rakes” like you’d use in a flower bed. I’m sure anybody seeing me doing that would think I’d lost my mind Surprised the hell out of me when it started to grow and now I’ve got this insanely green carpet-like “hand grown grass”

Growing grass from seed is very rewarding, nice work.
I did my annual sunflower seeding a few weeks back. Thinking I got over 200% take rate. I need to get in there and trim the grass as well.

Would really appreciate it if someone could reccomend a gas powered weed eater - ready to upgrade. Mine is a craftsman - works well but tired of respooling so often. My yard has a lot of weed whacking to be done esp during the summer.

Anyway, not to sway minds. I was definitely skeptical of electric. Just a happy convert (for small tools). |

I prefer the consistency of fuel powered. I don’t want to deal with batteries charging and dying or losing power etc. My gas powered blower for instance has had to rescue my moms yard when her batteries died.

For reliable, long lasting gas powered outdoor equipment go with a straight shaft Stihl, Husqvarna, or Echo weed eater. Especially something from their "professional" lines. Look at what all the landscapers use in your area. Probably no Ryobi or Troy or Craftsman. You can also get metal saw blade or triangle shaped brush blades for heavier stuff. Most have larger spools that do not need to be refilled as often.

What helped me the most was switching the head on the whacker. I can't even tell you what brand whacker I have, other than it's red. I've taken it to a local shop for maintenance about 3 times in 10 years.
But I got a replacement head that allows me to just manually string a new set of 3 strings. The new head allowed for thicker diameter, so they lasted longer. My property is 1/3 acre, including 2100 ft2 house. I cut new strings about every 3rd mowing session. Most of the edges I cut against are concrete or block.

While I was shopping for a Stihl I noticed a universal head with lines that you bend and pop in with great reviews. The craftsman I have is decently powerful, so if a $25 head solves the problem, I'm all for it.
