Is gas guzzler tax still being charged on the M5?

The M5 and M6 are not showing the gas guzzler tax on the Configurator on bmwusa.com. Is this still being charged?

Yes.. confirmed on my 2014 purchase. Same as 2013's tax. No avoiding it unless the federal law changes or the gas efficiency were to improve.

Not likely to change in our lifetime. When was the last time a luxury tax was removed?

Oh yeah... only think that's certain is death and taxes. For gas guzzler in particular, IIRC they have only increased the requirements over time.

It's not a luxury tax. It's a tax levied by red necks on urbane people. This is why SUVs like the 13mpg Escalade are exempt.

If you can afford the 2000.00 increase, then you can afford a 1300.00 tax. All on top of 108,000.00.

Rest assured the government will get the tax somehow. This is the tax form that has to be filled out by the dealership: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f6197.pdf

I imagine if a dealer was to forget to charge you for the tax, they would have to eat the cost for their mistake.

Yep if the dealer didn't add he's home free. I did ED last year, and the gas tax was not approved yet when I ordered. I was never charged, and paper work signed and they cashed my check(: A little luck happens sometime.

From what I understand I'll take US pricing WITH GG tax, over Canadian pricing...
