Dinan Muffler Drone

Bought the car used with a Dinan stage 2 tune, and it has a dinan muffler. Does anyone else find the drone unbearable? Can it be fixed?

Around 90 to 100 km/hr on backroads in 7th gear under 2000 rpm... its nuts.

I want the muffler to howl when I step into it, but stfu when I'm crusing

EDIT: found out the prior owner bypassed the flaps in the muffler and kept them open. Fixed it, no more drone.

That muffler(s) shouldn't be exhibiting any drone, or next to none anyway. You said you bought it used so is there a chance the DP's or the resonators may be modded?

Nice youtube channel btw.

Thanks. No factory DP, and has the resonators, the car was set up by Budds BMW in Oakville, I'd like to resolve the issue, any other suggestions?

Most likely due to the aftermarket Downpipes which most likely are catless.

I've had several setups and they all had drone at 1800 with Downpipes. My fix was to drive in D3/Sport Plus which increased the RPM range and kept it out of the drone range.

Try it

I had the Eisenmann Race (with no other changes to the factory pipes) and it droned like crazy and I had to take the mufflers off only after a week and went back to stock mufflers.

As you had said, the drone is at its worst at the 1500 - 2500 rpm range, driving at sport+ is the band-aid solution but if you are at the highway cruising range, you are going to be consuming lots of fuel as the result.

I agree it's a bandaid but much more fun to drive haha and the mpg loss is so minimal. On highway i get 24MPG driving in sport plus and D3. You can drop it to D2 and still get out of that range.

I had mufler delete and could stand the drone, now have Agency Power Ti systm... zero drone and nice sound (not too loud!). The Drone previously @~1800rpm was unbearable -wife would come out in the car and I didn't want to either!!!

Glad I am not the only one who thinks drone and loud obnoxous exhausts are great

1800 is the magical number for all of our drone range. Put right foot down have fun and smile at xxx speeds. Makes you forget about drone

Tried the D3/sport plus still the same, and sorry it does have factory DP and resonators on the car still. It's just the Dinan muffler section.

The only thing that seems to solve it is cruse above 2000 rpm in 7th, but it's geared so tall, even that is speeding on the highway here in Canada.

If Budds BMW sees nothing wrong with the Dinan exhaust, you may have to visit a local muffler shop to get their take on possible solution.

If you are at the west ends of the GTA, you can go to hotrodscott

Garage List
I have lower cell cats, no resonators, and the Dinan. No drone issues.

Weird. I have stock downpipes, dinan mufflers and the cp midsection and have absolutely zero drone. And I drive highway from vancouver to Seattle all the time. No drone when I have the exhaust flaps opened using exhaustmeister either. The tune shouldn't cause drone as its typically a function of rpm and exhaust setup.

Maybe there's a loose clamp between the mufflers and mid section causing an exhaust leak.

Something else to check. When the car is off, peek into the exhaust pipes. Do you see the flaps closed in one of the pipes on each side? If not, they must be hardwired open, which might cause drone.
