Question jb stage 1 at 4 psi vs stage 1 flash tune

just wanted to know should i go with jb stage 1 at 4 psi vs go for ess tune stage 1 flash tune?
ess is offering an amazing deal for a returning customer and i sold my 650i so soon after their tune.
by dyno graphs i can tell diff between jb and ess if about 3%, ess being 3% more powerful.
i dont want to do jb4+bcm due to advance install issues.

What advanced install issues - if you have done it before it will take an hours or so to install both the JB4 and BMC, if a novice and no real technical abilities, budget a day but you should have it done in 5 hours- the variable is how much procrastination you do.

Its only 3 connectors for the JB4 and 2 pairs for the BCM. The harder (still not hard by any means) to do is the BCM as the connectors are below the left hand intercooler but thats two hose clips and two coolant line slip on connectors to get it to move out of the way.

Just becareful you don't force the connectors together so you don't push a pin out but thats always the case when joining any connector- its operator error not product fault.

Happy to help talk you through it.... its worth the extra couple of hours procrastinating

The OBD2 cable has to run through the passenger side? I ask because I went from stage 1 JB3, which was an easy install, now going JB4.

The flash tune will probably make more power than just BMS Stage1 but then it costs more and there is the whole warranty thing. If its not a lease and out of warranty and the price is close enough go for the flash given just those two options.

Pretty sure once I get back to the track with the upgraded transmission my ESS tune +HFC +93 octane tune should be damn close to 10 seconds. It went 11.15 on a slipping transmission. That being said, I am probably still going to do a JB4+BCM and a backend flash.

I definitely need to check out your car at one time. Your 1/4 mile times in our altitude with your mods is freeking amazing! Definitely a beast of a M5!

I know I am going to get flamed, but I agree with your regarding the BCM install issues. I personally have had nothing but problems with the BCM, to the point where I lost the will to keep trying to get it installed. I have seen several posts of others in the same boat, and to be honest if your not going to get a backend flash and dont have the CP edition getting a BCM will be pretty pointless anyways.

My two cents is to get the ESS.... The peek HP numbers are probably very similar to a maxed out BMS Stage 1. However the drivability and performance will be better with the ESS flash tune.

Get the ESS. Don't get embroiled in install issues.

.
Edmguy, No flaming but it would be fair if you mentioned it was issues with your installer and I believe the same for the others mentioned, the device IS easy to install and has proven very reliable and well supported by Terry and BMS. Other issues are down to underlying issues with the car that surface when you tune - this would be the case with a flash as well.

The BCM is definitely work to install but then so is removing the DME's to flash them since they are water cooled. It absolutely adds a ton of power though even on pump gas on the OEM flash. Those with the competition package gain even more and those with meth or a back end flash map gain the most.

That said it's not for everyone. If you just want to gain 40-50hp and enjoy the car the Stage1 is the way to go. If you want to gain 50-60hp with some neat features like boost by gear and an in dash boost gauge, then do the JB4. It's just one extra wire for the OBDII port. Save the BCM for the really aggressive guys who want to dominate at the track or dyno.

yes want to keep my car stock otherwise, so that's why asked about jb stage 1 vs ess stage 1 tune. I don't want a 10 sec car, I am ok with mid to low 11 sec 1/4 times. and these times can improve with sticky tires.
if I am not getting sig power gains from flash tune compared with jb stage 1 then will stick with jb stage 1 then as it is cheaper and reversible.
also if the driving is smooth as stock then will def stick jb stage 1.
my car is 2013 m5 still under warranty for a few more months but its paid off so I bought it.
