1200 mile reprogram

Hi everyone

I just passed the 1200mile breaking period. My service rep told me to bring it in for launch control reprogram. I told the sale rep n he said that he never heard of it. Anyway so I brought the car in n after the reprogramming I noticed couple things happened

1- the car does not recognize the same usb drive before

2-when the gas is full the needle and the digital gas indicator dont match up anymore (photo)

3-the full tank used to give me the range 450-470 something miles but now you could see 373 miles. Before I used the premium exxon n I filled the tank on the day after reprogramming with shell v-power n I got this.

So my question is

does the beast needs to be reprogrammed for launch

and the above issues ever happened to anyone?

Thank you everyone

The gas gauge and digital meter are not measuring the same thing. The gas gauge tells u how much has you have in the tank. The digital meter is giving u your range based on driving habits. My guess is the service center either let the car idle or possibly an enthusiastic test drive changed your range. If you go back to your regular driving your range will go back to what your used to. My range is usually around high 300s.

Sounds to me those freaks did some F1 qualy sessions. I always tell them no wash, no vacuum, no test drive. I hate them.

Yes they changed the oil when the car passed 700 miles
I noticed that when I left the car there the milage was under 1300 but over 1300 when I picked it up. They probably did that enthusiastic ride
But does the car really need reprogrammed for launch??

How long does it take for the car to recalculate the driving habits

I can understand why a "spiritied" test drive would change your range, but the empty to full indicator on the digital readout should still read 100% when the needle is on F.

Mine would do the launch control prior to my break in service. I did not attempt it until I had reached 1,200 miles, but did prior to the service and it worked fine.

Yes I agree with "Driving habits" showing, BUT the car should not be test driven or need to be.
Just had my 1200 mile service done, it took 3 hours and never left the workshop.

After service, all was better, car seemed smoother to me.

I would say a full tank.
I collected my M5 Sunday morning and did the Hardish Brake-in ( once up to temp) the MPG was showing 8 MPG , it took a full tank after to change the computer averages.

I think the computer averages calculate until you reset them.

The On Board Computer recalibrates mileage almost constantly. I have noticed a change in less than five miles dependent on driving conditions.

There is ONLY the 1,200 mile / 1,900 km service. Engine Oil/Filter change, to get rid of any metal that may be left over from the build and the differential fluid change.

When the BMW tech resets the millage the chip is "opened up" at that point. There is NO specific launch control programing.

You're BMW Rep. was just setting you up to "test" the launch control himself!
