I have the same Pop/Clunk in the rear of my car. Its weird because it doesn't happen all the time. If my car sits over night and then I back it out of drive over the curb it pops just as the rear wheels drop off the curb with my front wheels turned at an angle (but the sound is definitely from the rear. Also the first aggressive turn, after the car has sat a while, I get the Pop/Clunk sound in the rear. I have been chasing this sound for almost 2 years with the dealer. They have been ok about it (replaces my rear struts, but not springs) but it is almost like it made it worse, it pops more often. If anyone has the fix for this please let me know. I have read the other threads you guys have posted and it sounds similar. I hope I am able to push the SIB at my dealer even though my car is out of warranty.

I have exact same problem, dealer and my mechanic shop couldn't find the problem, dealer inspected rear diff, diff mount and axels all good, on rainy days metal noise comes back, when its hot and dry it doesn't make a noise (sometimes it does) i noticed noise is coming from read driver side.

Yes, very hard problem to diagnose. My issues were when the car shifted its weight from side-to-side. I would then experience a popping noise. But, it didn't happen all the time and it wasn't repeatable. Ended up changing the differential and it seemed to fix my issue.

However, with that said, the problem persisted for awhile after the differential was changed albeit not as much for about a month. Then it went away entirely. I felt like not fighting it any longer and succumbed.

I'm just now having this issue with my 2011 550ix. I just read a really good post with someone having the same problem. I'm in NJ/NY area. That being said the roads are terrible. I hit a pot hole the size of the grand canyon the other day. I thought for sure it would have popped the tire. It did not instead it cause a creaking and clanking noise over bumps on the passenger rear side. Because the pothole was so big, the spring dislodged from the mount/hat that hold the spring and the shock or strut together. This can also damage or break the spring. Solution is new strut mounts, bump stops, and springs. Hope this helps.

Have you guys checked the bolts on the rear brace under the car? Those tend to get loos or even fall off and cause weird popping noises.
