Picking up a comp m5 this week. I have and adore my manual e92 m3. Right now I don't think there is anything that will compel me to sell it, but will be interesting to see if my impressions change after owning both for a while.

I kinda wish I would have sold my M3 a long time ago because now its kind of a waste. 2011 M3 with 31,XXX miles with Akrapovic exhaust and Dinan parts and tune. Should have sold it and gone for a P-Car and M5.
Is your m3 DCT or manual. I can see how if going from a DCT m3 to M5 not driving the M3 much... but I think I will continue to want to scratch the 6 speed itch fro time to time.

yea... makes sense. For me I see keeping it mostly cause its manual and if I sold it I won't have a manual car anyone.

That was my thinking as well. I tracked my M3 a few times and found it fun but just disconnected. Decided to get something that did the daily duty more appropriately but was still fun, now I need to find something to thrash a track with.

Yeah the search continues for me looking at the GT4-997 GT3- and now a 2017 Z06 with z07 package... It's hard choice for me. looking to pay 100k or less.

I dont understand the whole m3 vs m5 thing as people say it feels lighter

Id rather have a more powerfull car and upgrade Suspension on the m5 than have a m3
Because neither are great track cars

Although a supercharged m3 e92 i might consider lol

Disagree. M3 is an excellent track car. It was made for the track and that is where it shines

Its a luxury car that can handle being tracked....not made for it. The M3 is a great car if you want to take your fun daily for a spin on the track, but it does not "shine" there. It is not a good track car without heavy modification and weight reduction. The E92 M3 is just a 4 door E39 M5. Just as heavy, just as squishy. Making it a good track car will ruin the daily comfort, which as a guy with back issues is a no go.

I tracked my E36 all the time, I tracked my E92 once. After that I felt it simply wasnt cut out for the track and never went back with it.

The M3 is made for bombing down mountain roads, the M5 is made for eating highway miles. Both are fun and capable on the track, but neither are made for it.

I guess I just want the right tool for the job, rather than a multi-tool.

Agree to disagree. I own both e92m3 and f10. So no bias here. I have tracked the e92 as well as the e46 m3s

Sorry you lost all credibility now. I spend a lot of time at the track and the predominant cars are m3, Porsche’s etc.

I suspect your just trying to defend your purchase. They are just different cars. If you like m5 better that’s cool but he m3 is defiantly a superb track car. Again I own both m3 and m5 because they are so different and offer different experiences.

No i havent, ignorance is bliss

Ive done track days in m4 and m3 and m5 multiple generations
And ive not once did i say the m5 is superior for track over the m3 if that is what you are suggesting

If you think the m3 is designed for track you are wrong
Its not a track car and the m5 certainly is not

If you think a m3 is the pinnacle of track cars well enjoy that
I own multiple cars

In stock form m3 is not a track car

you said m3 is not a track car at all. I am saying its an excellent one (not pinnacle). There are obviously better track cars out there... but your bold statement that m3 is not a track car at all is a poor one at best.
