It's not about what car is faster. Its a totally different driving experience w the p car. I had one so there is no comparison. Porsche makes a great car.

Don't do it boots, don't get sucked in!

I'm meeting up with Cold tonight and I know he's going to have the full press on...exhaust note pumping in, revving like a mad man, hitting the twistys, he's going to try, but I will resist! However, I will fully enjoy it, but I will not be coming back to my hotel room and do a "build your own" on the Porsche.com...or maybe I will!

Cold resisted more than anyone--- then he got a taste and the rest was history. I have had an extensive list of cars- many over 500 hp and even a few over 600 and 700. All were or are great cars but the the 991 chassis is amazing. The steering is perfect, the balance is neutral, and the exhaust note is to die for... its not so much F1 like my V10 R8 but more of that true LeMans sound. The car begs to be driven which is where I am right now. I love the car and I rarely keep cars for 6 months if not a year any more. This one should make a birthday- but the GT3 looms on the horizon and that car will be even that much better than the 991. The 991 is a great compliment to the F10 M5 or the F13 M6 IMHO.

Vic, my brother went from a 997S to a 991S and says it's quite the adjustment and that the 991S feels more like a GT car than the 997S did. Everything I'm reading indicates that his perspective is accurate, even if just his opinion. Seems like the maturation of the E46 M3 to the E92 M3 from a chassis and refinement perspective, not engine size or output.

Concur 100%--- I had two 997 Turbos(.1 and .2 with PDK)- fast as hell but....... a chassis is a chassis and the stability with equal speeds provides no comparo. Ive never gone down this much in paper hp and still had the same impressed feelings of driving.

I agree with the E46 to E92 as well, owning both back in the day.

Clearly, if you have a chance to own a Porsche it's a grown up car like the M5. I have hit corners at high speeds, and than damn thing will not slide one bit. Agree with Vic we had to twist cold in a major way, and he gave us crap at each step. I hate that I have been looking at the GT3 every damn day, but it may not suite my driving style since I only drive the M and 991 on the weekends. I told Cold we may have to go to Jim Ellis, and deal for two if the price is right. My 18 year old my get a gift a low milage 991S if he improves his grades. I would say the 991 is a very sexy car while being fun to drive. By the way I would take a 458, and I'll shoot for my 50th for that one. It may be a 501 then

With you, Vic and Cold potentially upgrading to GT3s, I may have my pick of the litter of "gently" used, nicely optioned 991s'!!

I'm going to need some arm twisting so far I'm 100% satisfied, and if I give it up it will be a gift to my 18 year old. We will see not Cold is another story .......I buy my cars and normally keep for 6 six years until they give me problems. Now I may sell the M5, and get a GC that car is beautiful IMHO!

I don't know man. In this rain I am not doing ANY hard driving. Heck, this is TRUCK weather!

Although I may bring it down for you to check out anyway. And I have the dang wheel locks!-lol!

We could take a ride over to Jim Ellis. That would be a fun trip back to TX in your new 991!

Dude I have no idea how you drove that thing with no clear bra. I had mine done as soon as I got it home, and was shaking driving on the terrible 85 with all the trucks. Rain sucks it's beautiful in NY. I may blow of my trip to AMS, and back in ATL the weekend and we can take a cruise.

Trust me man-sweated it the whole time. I only use Derek with Atlanta Protective Films. We have had a tough time coordinating schedules.

Heck, I still need to get the paint correction done on the M6 and get it done as well. Had it since June!

Yeah, that would be great. Let me know. Definitely love to go for a cruise!

One day kiddo you will learn it's not always about money when you purchase a car. The group of guys on this board (we) don't have pissing contest on what's faster. My buddy has a hopped vet that will kill a 458, but which would you choose be honest. Many of us have been here for awhile, and know eachother from Euro Delivery, and don't get hung up on brands sorry to say. Look at Vic he has all of them, and is cool dude.

The only reason you received a reply from me is because I'm not sure you get this baord we don't knock others for their choices. Someone buys someting, and they share it simple as that. This topic took a life of it's own because so many questions were asked from the posters. Please enjoy your M5 because myself, Cold, and Vic we do not have issues at all.

$100 says he says "Vette".

Man, you are so right. So many of us are such good friends. Funny how a new kid thinks it is appropriate to insult any of us. This is our community and all new people are welcomed by all of us. I can't remember a thread started by a new memebr where he/she came on and introduced him/herself and wasn't greeted with a thousand "Welcome"s. What use is it to this great forum to come on and sling insults? Glad we have all maintained some sense of decorum (at least publicly-lol).

Like you said man, I hope he enjoys his car like the rest of us and can contribute in a meaningful way. Comments like "yeah!" don't cut it. He votes a "1" on the thread but then participates more and more. How crazy is that?

Actually, I don't think anyone has understood that as your comments have been nothing less than crass and insulting. "Good conversation" has not been the result whatsoever. However, if you want to now engage in such, I am all for it. I don't hold silly grudges. A lot of us are very good friends here and I am sure I speak for a few of us when I say we'd be glad to shake hands and be friends with you too.

I don't think I would personally trade my M5 or M6 for an M4. cool car but IMO still the "lesser" of the M cars. You may not like them but honestly, for a "sports car" feel the P car would be my choice hands down. There is so much more to the experience than the power. If that was the case I would have kept the M5. Having that motor roar behind you and being able to stomp on the gas in the turns and have it grip because of the weight over the rear tires is pretty darn thrilling. The car just sort of wraps around you. Really some impressive engineering. Took me literally 2 months to even like the things. I loved the "feel" but I did no "get" how to drive them. Once I figured that out (big learning curve coming from a V10 and then a V8 TT) it was really an easy choice. Even if you are not a fan of them you should drive one for kicks. It is a a very cool and different experience that you should enjoy.

So how long until this thread crosses the 1,000 post threshold? I must say it's been cool to see it become the largest thread on M5Post.

So question of the year then?

Which will be better, 911 Carrera S or M4?

Go!

That should carry this thread past the 1,000 post mark.

Ummmmm, I will say for style points, chick magnet, history, down right sexy 991. I would also add the 911 is timeless, and I think I'm too old (44) pulling into the office in a M4. I had a E46 M3 which was cool when I was 30 something. The M5 is the grown up car to the M4 just my two cents. Remember this is my opinion, and nothing more(:

Good say

I will take m3 as daily drive and let my 911 to be the weekend car

Yeah, this would DEFINITELY push it past the 1000 mark if we keep using the word "better"-lol!

My vote is easily the 991S for all the reasons Henry stated: It is just a SEXY car. I think with the two cars side by side the Porsche is going to get all the looks. Everywhere I go people compliment it and ask questions and stare. I love when I'm at a light and the guy in the minivan is checking out the wheels and those red Porsche brakes and I know he's thinking "how did I end up in this van?"-lol!

Also, it really is a timeless piece of art. Porsche has never failed to improve on the 911 without straying away from its heritage. It is immediately recognizable and respected for what it is-a true sports car with lots of class and a pure raw edge.

Also I agree on the M3/4 being seen more as a younger person's car. No insult to any owners meant here. It is purely my opinion and a reflection of the typically younger driver that I see in them on the road.

AND it has the most remarkable flat six normally aspirated motor that just emits the little spurts and gurgles of a sports car and let's out that intoxicating roar in the high RPMs.

It just has all the elements and FEEL of a true sports car. So, if we are voting "better" in all-around sports car categorization, hands-down I would choose the 991S. This is being said without having actually witnessed and driven the M in person of course but I believe that I will stand by my opinion when the M4 is finally released as BMW would really have to make completely different changes to the design and drivetrain to meet the specs that I prefer as noted above.

Now, the REAL question is...WHO will be the 1000th poster?!
