My M5 arrives in two weeks....im back and forth on whether or not I should purchase the dealer's tire and wheel warranty. Is the warranty negotiable? What is the costs ? Your thoughts are appreciated.

I think you need to decide what are the risks and have you ever bent a rim before. If you live in LA I say get it. There are so many potholes and the streets are generally maintained like crap... Odds are you will bend your 20" rims somewhere. I didn't get the wheel and tire because I looked at the roads I drive on in OC which is usually as smooth and I took a chance that I rather save the cash and self insure against a nail or bent rim. |

Just had a 500$ Nokian winter tire blow, they replaced free of charge. The warranty is worth it, especially with the little compliance the 20" wheels and 30 series tires give.... Roads are bad here and winters are not as rough as they used to be but still quite nasty....

I originally got it, but then canceled it after about 3 weeks. Thinking back I have gotten one nail in a tire the last 3 or 4 years. The return on the investment would be to replace 3 or 4 tires in 3 years, so in the end the better decision was to self insure.
Take the premium, throw it in some vanguard mutual fund and each time you need a tire use that money.. I'll bet that in the end you'll break even or be ahead. This is the same bet the insurance company is making and they are typically winning.. :-) -jr |

One more thing is the finance guy at my dealer pulled some line where the policy was regulated by the state and he couldn't adjust the price. This was a BS line, but he stood by it even after I provided him with documentation from the state and the line in his own contract which stated "The prices charged for this coverage are not regulated by the state of florida dept of insurance regulation"...

Im picking up my new to me M5 next week and this topic will probably come up. Any idea how much they offer for this type of coverage? Also, do they just cover the OEM wheel/tire? What if I change the tire to snow tires, will that get covered as well?
thanks! |

I am facing the same dilemma and posted a few questions about it on here. I still have no idea of the price and I am assuming its $2k or more. I would have to tear up a lot of wheels and tires over the next 3 years to make that worth it. I have also heard to buy it and “accidently” (wink, wink) get a nail in the tire. Plan is to never have to buy tires for it. My lease is only 3 years, so not sure how many tires I would go through anyway.
