Maybe there's too much torque here...*shrug*

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I'm coming from a 2011 E90 M3 (not exactly a torque universe).....

Today I was sitting at the light waiting and glaring at twitter on my One x. And I guess I missed the light change. The problem is people in Charlotte are so polite, no one blows their horn. Sometimes not even for danger and it can be very unnerving at times....

So I look up suddenly and noticed...light GREEN...cars gone. Line of traffic behind me. Woman in a Passat looking pissed. Civic Si full of college aged kids next to me happily staring at the M cause I'm cool like that. Now mind you, I'm well under break-in at around 260 miles and so I've been babying this thing. I punch it at times, never full throttle and never 5500 rpm. So now I did what any normal human being would do. I mashed the gas. Boy was that a mistake.

I swear the M5 all but ripped my head clean off. I'm not kidding. I've never felt anything like it in my life. Not in the craziest rollercoaster. I think the issue here is not the amount of torque only, but the time at which the torque begins. It's silent torque initially because the rpm is so low, and is really quite eerie. Scary actually. Like some crazy powerful electric engine. And I didn't even go full throttle. Well anyway....too much torque? Too early? Just right? I wouldn't change it. But what do you guys think about this ridiculous 502 lb.ft at an even more ridiculous 1500rpm? Just wanted to share my story. Happy motoring!

Sigh. Seemed to be that was a 6MT M5 being driven by my sister. Pathetic launch and changing, not to mention late start. Useless 1st and 2nd gear wheelspinning the whole time. Did you see the videos with the M5 devouring the Aston martin DBS when launch control used? I'm getting so sick of hearing about this Tesla video man. It's a whack video man. Ignore it.

Yeah the torque is no joke. Wait until your above 150mph and you mash the throttle, it's the same effect as when you were at that stop light! I'm not kidding.

What an outstanding performance from the M5 - especially as the guy in the DBS was constantly starting early ....

one or 2 of all those races there looked i impressive for the m5. the rest the aston martin looked and SOUNDED like a FUCKING MONSTER. OH MY GOD. i thougtht the m5 sounded good, but fucking forget about it. my m5 sounds like the fan above my kitchen stove compared to that thing. lol

i was actually quite disappointed with this, the m5 should have ran away with every single race being up 20-30 hp.

Hmmmm...really? Sound? that's what you're crazy about? Well that's you man. Watch the runs at the end from stop with launch control. You expect a 100k 4-door sedan that seats 5 to do better than that against an exotic V12 $275K car like an Aston DBS in a straight line that's build exclusively for hauling ass with two people and has no trunk???? wow. Okkkk. If you say so bud. And yes. from a stop, the M5 devoured that DBS. A full like 3 car lengths from 0 up to about 120 mph. What would convince you>?

That Aston is considered a "super car "
I'd say the M5 is pretty impressive!!!

Nice writeup!
All these people who say the M5 is too isolated worried me about being able to feel the power.
Glad to hear that's not the case.
I want to know how it stacks up against a GTR though. I always wonder if I can get the same kind of 'omg im gonna die' effect from the M5. (My brother has the GTR and that thing is brutal on launch!)

sound . yes. sound for me, is half of the driving experience. thats why the e60 m5 was so cool.

man not this "4 door sedan" stuff again.

crying out loud is this a Buick were talking about? no. its its the " M 5 ". as for the Aston martin, it has doors that open up in reference to a swans wings. do you really think its main focus is geared towards performance? what makes it so much more expensive than the m5 is ALL due to luxury.

from a performance aspect the m5 is more specially geared to, well, performance, than the Aston martin is. otherwise that thing would be turbocharged or supercharged also and would be making like 700 hp.
