Best if you can pump as much as you can out. If you can't do that put octane booster in before driving it. (NOTE: 30 point octane boost will bring 87 to 90). Also stay out of boost until you can refill, and do it often (like even if you have a quarter tank so you can dilute out the bad gas). Don't drive on 87.

I agree with v3n0m. This happened in my E39 M5 when a friend borrowed it. My check engine light came on the next day. That's when I found out.
Dilute by keeping the tank full and adding 91 to it. I doubt you will damage anything. But not the kind of fuel you want in your performance car. Don't let him fill up again, take cash. Good luck.
