Help M5 F10 Oil issue 9.5 litres burning way to quick to minimum

Hi

I hope you are well?

I been having an issue with my BMW F10 M5 2013 - 70000 + on clock -comp regarding oil!

I recently got a major service at BMW Feb 2023 with 9.5 litres 5 30 Grade oil poured in and after 500 plus miles it tells me I’ve hit minimum… pictures of mileage comparison.

A year and a bit ago I saw the same message pop up after a 1000 miles, which required me buying a 4 litre to top up to remove of minimum. I mentioned to BMW straight away they brought it in. Did a test and said it’s all fine no issues… then a few months later it I notice blue smoke when I either idle for a bit and press of to move. If drive and press hard when it changes gears blue smoke can be seen in rear view.

I honestly don’t know what to think and I have been searching online from since the weekend to see if I can maybe find a resolution/ someone who had the issue or know of this issue that can steer me in the right direction.

Is there a garage in London that people know of that had similar issue and got it sorted? (Please)

Am I sitting on a dead car?? I don’t drive the car hard no mods just standard as it comes.

Yours consumes more than usual but not uncommon. Btw from minimum to maximum on the meter is 1 quart (~1 liter), not 4.

Do not put 4 liters in! Just check it every time you add gas and top it off as needed.

Thanks for responding on this. So minimum is what I assume to be 1 litre as per pic. The reason I put in 4 litres is I can’t put 1 litre of oil in it as I don’t actually know what is going on in the engine/oil tank. So I put in after the I drive pinged me. And it also boils down to it saying it’s minimum. I think 500 miles to burn through almost 8/9 litres is pretty bad my side. And I have the blue smoke lingering :-( Cheers

In my handbook it says oil grade should be 0W40 as first choice,I use Castrol Edge as it's written Castrol on oil cap and it sounds like the valve guides are crying enough with what I've read from others with the same high oil consumption,that's if it's not an oil leak which is unlikely as your techs have checked it. If you put 4 litres in then if overfilled it can be catastrophic for the engine.

Thanks again for taking the time out.
My technicians at BMW didn’t check it tbh they only checked for oil leaks under tray is what I’m finding out on an old conversation history lol. So it’s now not looking good as I been saying this for over year regarding serious oil loss and recently just now. TBH I’m hoping someone on the thread can let me know of a garage who maybe able to help. I don’t think I can be spending money on a new engine. Or even listen to what BMW says!

5W30 is a cheaper oil than the 0 40. I'd change it to the 40 and see how it runs then, also the PCV's should be inspected and possibly replaced at those miles, they're easy to get at next to the turbo's, that's what I would do to be sure before plunging in further.

You got the low oil warning and added 4 liters?

Do not drive or even start the car at all! Change the oil where it is and add the correct amount. Hopefully you didn’t ruin your engine.

It's a PITA getting to the sump plug, right at the back of the sump and behind, these cars are at nearly 2 tons so make sure all the safety gear is in place or get a mobile mechanic to do it with the ready oil.

I have a similar issue with my BMW F10 M5 2013. It's requiring an oil top up of 1L every 2-4 months. I haven't noted how many KM are driven in that time.

Last time was in January 4th, and just got a warning light today March 19th. The interval wasn't this close before.

No apparent oil leaks on the floor of the garage - is there an easy way to check for an oil leak?

Hope you well.
Just to give an update on my issue.
The mechanic went through and checked the PCV and said it was clogged with oil @Vqpro2.I changed them with new ones. And he said run it for a while let the excess oil burn out. So atm I’m just monitoring hoping it’s just that and nothing else…

Good luck with that, I think I'll have my PCV's checked also, i just topped up with a litre but that was since this time last year,

Have just checked both my PCV valves and both are clear as a whistle with just a minute smudge of oil and it's normal to top up once in a while b/c of the nature of the engine.
You could use a thicker oil like molly 5W 40 to cut down a bit on usage like some do in the US but the 0W 40 grade gets to the rod bearings quicker from cold start.
