Comes out to over 100k. Why would ANYONE rather go that route than purchase an M5 instead?!

Because it then becomes fast and furious. M5 DCT is boring. 550 not so. Plus it has one extra gear.

Wow 38k upgrade!! Insane but like most people said for that much why not just get an M5. You've spent 100k already.

They say it's more luxurious but I don't see how. They can't change the interior and the M5 has Merino which the 550i at 62k doesn't. If you get a full up 550i for $83k and add $38k you end up with $121k and you still don't have the full M5 package. I would rather get the M5 with every possible option and even then, you are probably still under $120k. I have almost every option except night vision and individual interior features. Mine was $111,400 MSRP so I am not sure how much more the other stuff would add but couldn't be more than a total of $120k.

The ability to switch the car modes in the M5 is really amazing. I had the suspension on Sport Plus yesterday on the freeway and I could feel all the little ridges in the pavement. I switched it to comfort and the ride just became that of a 750 or Lexus 460, soft and smooth. Just an outstanding vehicle, not getting that capability in a stock or modded 550i.

What a monumental waste of cash.

"Dinan doesn't publish acceleration figures"

Ridiculous.

It's not feasible to buy a 550 and start dumping money into it when you can purchase a factory made rocket (M5). Doesn't make sense.

Not only everything everybody else has said here, but also imagine what you could do to an F10 M5 (performance wise) with $38K? You could easily do turbo upgrades on an M5 with that amount of money and be at least 800hp to the crank.
