F10 M5 Resonator delete

So before i got my m5 I had every intention of straight piping from axle back. After hearing the cold start in the morning I am unsure if this would be a good thing to do.
The biggest problem I have is I live on a road with street parking only and i don t want to upset the neighbours with the noisy cold start. I'm paranoid that someone will purposely damage it.

Overall I'm quite happy with the sound of all stock exhaust, it sounds so much better in person than they do online. I would however like the gunshot sounds to be louder and happen more often. I read that the resonator delete helps with this and has little affect on exhaust volume during cold start and low rpms? Can anybody comment on this? Taking into consideration that I don't want my cold start to be any louder than it already is with the flaps permanently open on the standard exhaust.

Thanks

I love the gunshot change when on boost and hot exhaust

Catless helps but going rear race mufflers less backpressure and gunshot not as loud
I think backpressure plays a role in this

I'd like to remove the cats but I'm unsure about the legality of that subject. Don't want any hassle with insurance should I have an accident. The rear box delete might be to loud for me on cold start. How much difference would you say there is in terms of percentage? I'm not sure a resonator delete would be my only option at this moment.

I am currently catless with straight pipe rear box mod (pcw mod). Cold start is crazy loud so I am running a bootmod3 stage 2 tune which deletes cold start. even before I got the rear boxes modified the cold start was really loud catless. I live on a main road with my own parking space outside my house and the neighbours have commented. I need to put the cats back on soon for MOT. I would say get the rear box modified first and he can also remove the centre resonators if you want. Or wire the valves on the exhaust open first. I did it with cable ties really easy.

I've wired the valves open already it's made it better but I'm sure I'm on the limit with the neighbours now. I thought about having the cold start removed but isn't it there to ensure oil circulation on start-up? I only really want the gunshot sound improved.

well I am not sure about that but from what I have heard its to warm up the catalyst

Edit I have a remote on mine as well so when I start it cold I keep the valves shut then open them when I want to be noisy... i.e. 99% of the time

I'll go and speak to the local tuner, hopefully he'll be able to remove the cold start for me. Not looking at a tune yet otherwise I'd just get evolve to do it at the same time. If my guy can remove the cold start then I guess I'll be breaking out the welder for back box delete.

Resonator delete on stock exhaust with the valve tied open sounds great. Add catless downpipes and its a monster.

I did just muffler delete this time sounds ok

As much as I'd like to get catless downpipes I don't think that's really an option for me. Another question I have though, is it ok to have cold start switched off while cats are still fitted? I originally thought that the cold start ensured oil circulation, a member told me that it's to warm the cats up. I don't want to shorten the life of the cats dramatically.

With my catless set up with rear box mod I get drone with the valves open so its handy to have the remote to have them as stock when I am just driving along the motorway

Is there a big difference with drone when valves closed on straight piped back boxes?

Yes having the valve closed really helps keep the drone and noise down when you don't want it to be noisy

i have a resonator delete on mine that i just did. once camera mic has been fixed ill record a video and post it here. but in summary: no drone, loud outside, turbos sound alot louder mixed with bmc drop in filters and upshifts usually sound like some ass slaps. best sound mod overall id say.but inside the car still quiet. shows how refined m5 is but some straight pipe sound freaks might not like this level of sound.

I've just put my cats back on for MOT and now I think its far too quite and muffled! pops and bangs still but the sound is muted so might get a third set of cats and just gut the primaries and maybe remove the centre resonators too.

So if you want to buy my gutted down pipes I might be persuaded a this time haha

Did you just put straight pipes instead of it? or use X or H pipe?

I'm really itching to do this after putting stock cats back in

Still wondering about these. Do I need to buy a xpipe or h-pipe to take resonators out?

did straight through for that bit rest of car is stock exhuast set up atm. wooo hardddd deja vu as i type this. anyways i can upload a video on youtube and link it here tomorrow on what the sound it like. the turbo can be heard nicely and there are alot more pops/ass slap type sounds when youre full throttle upshifting. i dont think there is any difference in power but the sound is very nice.
