Can someone explain what an aftermarket exhaust does for your car? I have never understood why spend 8k and only change the sound and maybe get 5hp

Someone enlighten me please! I'm confused, I own a 911 and buying an M5 but lost on exhaust. Thx!

With Eisenmann, if I do only the rear clamp on section and NOT the center pipes also, what type of sound difference am I looking at. Are any of the vids above with only the rear section modified?

Sounds like some internal coding. I bet IND has a programmer that can go right into the guts of the car electronics.

These type of programmers are not normally avail to the public plus they are huge $$$.

I think this has to involve a reflash of the ECU. Warranty issues??

Am I just nuts, or is this a reasonable question? If you buy and aftermarket exhaust, and don't shut off the 'Active Sound', you're still hearing piped-in mp3 sound through the car stereo system. Won't you be hearing two different exhaust sounds in the same car? Nobody has said anything about how you can turn this off.

Or do you just say "What the heck, the combo sounds great so we don't care." Crazy.
The exhaust sound never comes through the speakers. It's the sound of the engine that's synthesised through the speakers. That's not being changed. So with any after market exhaust you don't need to worry about active sound at all.

When I said 'exhaust sound' I meant the OEM 'Active Sound' that is recorded from a stock F10 engine on a dyno, stored as an audio file on the ECU, and piped into the passenger cabin through the speakers. This is how Active Sound works.

The main reason anybody gets an aftermarket exhaust is to change and improve the sound that you hear from inside the cabin. I don't know too many people that only care about the sound that other people hear from outside the car.

If you don't defeat Active Sound, you'll still have the OEM engine/exhaust sound being piped into the cabin, over the new aftermarket exhaust sound. That would be a problem for most people.

Kelleners Sport Exhaust

Kelleners Sport Exhaust
Made in Germany by Eisenmann
4x90mm Round tips
Full system or rear muffler only
http://www.kelleners-sport.com/en/Ne...ust_M5_F10.php

"Even if the new BMW M5 (F10) is still quite rare Kelleners Sport already offers a complete exhaust system with valve control for this new supercar.

Kelleners Sport has developed a valve system that has been integrated in the rear silencer. This allows it to be opened or closed automatically, depending on the rev and speed of the car.
That means that the valve remains closed by a cold start in order to comply with the legal noise regulations. From a rev of approx. 4.000 rpm the valve opens and delivers a much more sonorous exhaust sound."
