What It's Like to Drive a 2016 BMW M5! Vehicle Virgins.
I don't know if it was already posted. The guy from Vehicle Virgins trashes the ///M5 with only 35miles on the odometer and totally disobeying "brake-in" procedure.

There are many different theories on run-in procedure - http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=878719
I understood that some favour the drive it like you stole it school of thought ! That said, I would be a bit pi55ed off if that was a car I was about to take delivery on. ps I know someone who was loaned a delivery miles M235, then drove to France & someone did x3 laps of the Le Mans circuit on the Saturday morning before the race - hitting an indicated 155mph at the 200 marker board for the 1st Mulsanne chicane - I would not want to buy that car ! |

I don't think the guy "trashed" the car at all. All he did was mash the gas a few times. Never got to triple digits or anything. Didn't do any burn outs or launches. I mean if you're going to buy a car and you test drive it, I'd test it just like that. You don't spend all this money to drive these cars in auto.

Agree - get oil the right temp and then do WOT under load. Babying the car is only asking for issues with ring seating and ultimately blow-by and burning oil.

revs are not so important. Whats much more important is the load placed on the engine so NO WOT moments at all during break in is the best way

The most exciting part of the video was when he was looking both ways before pulling out into the traffic. The speed of the head-flick was awesome.

All dealership cars are driven hard. Even if you special order one in and go to pick it up it will have few miles for pdi, the car wash guy who goes and fills it up and floors it soon as he leaves dealership..etc.. They all kick them down. Modern high performance engines are pretty tough. My race bike had hard break in and bounced off the rev limiter repeatedly and never missed beat.
I think manufactures break in procedure is more about you getting to know your car and how it handles, brakes and behaves in first 1000 miles more than hurting the engine. |

I don't really see anything wrong here and definitely wouldn't say he 'trashed' it. Like stated previously as long as the oil temp was on pare you aren't really hurting anything.

Ok so I finally took the bait and watched this video.
They also made another video about a week ago. Here it is: I don't mind the flogging of the car, because that is what an M5 is built for, but what I do mind is their amateur approach to what is already an extensively reviewed and well tested car. They give only a basic run down of what the car is and is capable of. They give no mention that that there are no changes between a 2016 and 2015 M5 either. I'm usually all for the younger generation appreciating high performance cars, but something is still missing when they talk about this car and it's because of their age. They have no little to no experience of long term ownership of the previous generation M5's and of the F10 M5, or any other car for that matter. However, I don't hold that against them, as I wouldn't expect a 22 year old to know what it's like to own an $120k F10 M5 for 3 years or more, but that fact is that lack of experience shows on their amateur reviews. I get that these "kids" may be trying to break into the car review business, but as someone who has a lot of experience in ownership I find their little review, disappointing at best. There's no real valuable content in their videos that hasn't already been mentioned before by professional journalists. I'm just surprised that they've gotten so many views. I also find their thoughts on the E60 M5 to be hilarious. They were probably 14 years old when that car first came out. Lol!

Look at his collection of cars and I'm somehow sure that he could afford a real watch if he wanted one.

It's that time again when EOP has been (just about) reached for this generation and the 2012-2013 F10 M5 can be fetched for a very low price. The culture changes as the ownership group changes.
RPiM5 I'm sure you remember this same shift on M5Board E60 M5 forum once the E60 reached EOP.

Gives off the smell that he's a high roller, but looking at his watch more closely, it's definitely fake. I've got a ROO, and just from a few pauses, there are some serious issues with his watch. |

I think he reviews cars pretty good.
Lots of people on here have broken in their cars similar to that or worse. There was a survey on f80 post and about 1/2 of the surveyed had broken it in the wrong way. All I know is that there is a lot of room for mistakes in the break in and mistakes will happen. Also I've never heard of anything bad that was caused by breaking in the wrong way.
