It just sounds like two cars (m5 & m3) revving their engines.. Cant really determine anything..

I'll make the first M5 reply out of 27 M3 replies.
Nothing to debate here, M5 sounds better. It's just too obvious to any ear, admit it or not Respect to the M3 people! Btw both cars sound much better when on the move |

How many here own an M3 or M5 old or new. Completely different cars so they really shouldn't be compared. F80 M3 vs F10 M5 is a better but that will be ways off yet. |

Why only exhaust note alone? The induction note is equally important. In this regard, the M5 will pale in comparison due to the turbos. The M5's exhaust note however, is very aggressive and macho in real life. Every time i give it the beans, the rumble it makes reminds me of an angry erupting volcano along with the thrust

One thing I don't understand, did you try the new M5 before complaining about the sound or the "domesticated" feeling? Most of you have only seen vids on youtube (so am I...)
But I refrain from commenting on the "meh" car feeling until I test/hear one (new M5 ) IRL. And I have to say, I don't like the E9x M3 sound, E46 M3 and M5 (all models) sound better. |

But even the M3 stock exhaust sounds tame. E46 M3 stock exhaust is terrible-- that sounds like a dirtbike. Put on an aftermarket system and get rid of the metallic rasp and it's pretty sweet classic I-6 noise. As far as stock exhausts on current models, I think the 335is sounds the best. As for my 335d, my exhaust doesn't sound like anything at all.
