Thumbs up S63tu dropped - Step Change?

Looks like Dinan has big plans for our s63tu. Can't wait.

Any guesses?

Why would it need new internals ? Doesn't make any sense, this engine will handle 1000whp on stock internals, easily !

my guess is rods are weak.. same issue with gtrs and having to much torque available at very low rpms...which can be tuned but why not fix that and have all that power on tap...

My bet low compression block with rods pistons and bigger turbos...

Really??? 1000 whp? If this is true, then BMW must fire those engineers who wasted the money/cost of design for huge over kill engineering

Considering n54 handles 700whp on stock i ternals, i wouldn't doubt it !

It's funny that minutes ago in other thread a guy was talking about tuned N54 650 WHEEL HP and now you are talking about N54 700 WHEEL HP... I am almost speechless because I don't know how that fantastic Transmission and Differential can handle that much power (almost 800 HP at crank) right?

1000 whp on cast pistons in a high compression turbo.... should be good for at least 1 dyno pull.

Seems like unnecessary effort to drop the engine for bigger turbos given their location on top of the engine.

It has been suggested that Dinan prefer to develop on an engine dyno. Could be the case.

The rods are forged so they are probably good , but the pistons are cast so no way are they good for over 700 whp. I would imagine it's going to be lower compression forged pistons , new turbos upgraded fueling system , and maybe sleeved cylinder walls .

How do you know the pistons are cast ? Plus Dinan will never get into those power figures, so this is just pointless blah blah

The technical manual for the motor . It's the same piston used in the N63tu . It also actually has N63tu/S63tu stamped on it . I wouldn't want to hit 700whp on a cast piston .

My guess is DCT clutch plates. They wear out fairly easy with more HP.

Steve Dinan is leaving Dinan, so maybe he's taking the motor with him. Either way, not sure it's good news for this project.

The M5 is staying at the R&D facility to complete its overhaul. What seems to be lost in all of these threads is that Steve isn't walking away from the company. Far from it. He still is on board as a consultant to engineering to guide that end of the building and to lend his expertise in that realm. While he will not be in the building day to day he will still be a valuable resource within the company. His dream job just happened to present itself and so he took it. Racing has always been his passion which is why Dinan has had so much success at the race track and why an offer from Chip Ganassi was so alluring. So while new upper management is in place the crew that has always been responsible for the products is still in place. Its not like the new management doesn't know what they are doing. They have been around since they bought the company 2 years ago and have a very successful past track record at other companies and in the industry in general.

All in all a successful team is in place from top to bottom that is more then capable of taking over the everyday operations of Dinan without Steve's oversight. In fact I think everyone will be surprised with all the coming plans with the "new" Dinan. The press release (can be viewed here) has already hinted at a few changes such as a new AWD dyno testing facility and a massive tractor trailer for race events as well as shows but that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's going to be an fun and interesting ride!

That makes you wonder if CG racing is going to have some input into the m5 to make it better.

Thank you for the clarification.
Very excited for the future of Dinan
