Engine shuts off by itself !

Should I be concerned? Was driving tonight and stopped in a parking spot, pulled the emergency brake up while in drive still and the car just shut off. Wasn't driving hard prior to that, engine temp was ok. Car started right up again. Went home and pulled in the driveway and same thing happened. Pulled up the emergency brake while in drive still, foot on the brake and the car just shut off by itself again. Have 8k miles on the car. Checked all the systems and no faults.
Don't mean to sound stupid or overly concerned, but is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Take a look to see if your auto start/stop is enabled. Its the button just under the ignition start stop. If its on it would do the above.

Hey, hey.. My trunk got locked with the button in the center console and I had to ask how that happened too

It happens

Auto/start/stop button must be disabled. The button under the start button should remain lit (red) if you want it not to do that

Sounds like the Client Advisor did a poor job of "delivering" his vehicle- assuming he purchased it new.

Ok, I feel like an ass, but at least y'all had a good laugh on me. So, what I didn't tell you is that I had given the car to a valet earlier that evening and he must have shut the button off. I've never used that function since I got the car, so it freaked me out. Thanks for taking it easy on me, lol.

Honestly, same thing happened to me early on owning my M5. Totally freaked out!

Reminds me of when I had a loan Infinity M35 hybrid and the rev counter dropped to zero at highish motorway speeds! Cue major freaking out expecting a christmas tree of lights on the dashboard when I realised on "goosing" the accelerator the petrol engine had been off and I had been cruising on electric power alone!!!

That's funny, but I suspect it may intitially alarm many of us if the valet or wife did the same thing without our knowledge.

I wouldn't know that either and just learned something new today. I sort of told my salesman to just skip the demonstration when taking delivery. I bet there are still tons of things I haven't figured out about this car up until now.

The BMW Performance Center can spend 2 hours going over the features. For my X3, I told them to hit the highlights and they still spent a full hour.
