If you do drive vs. taking the Acela (which I think is the best idea), park at the Port Authority bus station garage. It's right inside the Lincoln Tunnel and it's self park (so no Ferris Buhler joyrides). It's the only place I park when I drive into the city. From there you're at 8th Ave and 42nd street, right in the heart of midtown. On your way home there's an exit ramp that dumps you right into the tunnel so you won't have to deal with any city traffic.

As others have already stated... taked the Acela! Did this trip many times when I was there in DC, as my best bud lives on 53rd and 7th in Manhattan. Train is the way to go, especially when there is weather... you can have cocktails on the train.

oh by the way have fun paying 70 a day in parking if you do choose to drive.

As for Manhattan, you know where you are going out already or are you interested in Dinner/Drink spot recommendations?

Actually, I'd be interested in these recommendations. Have some good friends up there and am there pretty often. Usually my buddy does all the destination selection/planning - he's a wall st dude so the places are usually pretty great, but I wouldn't mind knowing what you guys recommend for future reference.

Will start with a restaurant reco of my own - If you like Indian food, I highly recommend Bukhara Grill - and get the lamb chops. It's a nice enough place - particularly in spring/early fall if you can get a rooftop seating - but you go primarily for the food, not the atmosphere.

Avoid the buffet - but then I would say that for every restaurant that does one.

Thanks!

Thanks bro! Yeah I'm highly considering the Acela now. I don't have dinner planned out yet for Saturday night. Yes I would like recommendations. Let's see what you got. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, I haven't been dating this girl for too long yet. Lol! Just something fun I think.

Actually I'm deciding not to take the Acela, although convenient, right now it's just not worth it. For 2 people round trip on the Acela, the price comes out to about $1,000! I can drive up there in the Fiat, spend $60 bucks in gas round trip (most people forget it gets 37mpg), pay $80 in tolls round trip and $50-$100 in parking at the hotel in Manhattan for the weekend and it comes out to way less than $1,000. Lol! If this girl was my wife or the sex was mind-blowing then MAYBE I'd pay for the Acela! HAHAHAHA!

One thing for sure: if she was your wife, the sex would no longer be mind blowing! Or anthing else blowing for that matter.

Yeah I forgot... last minute Amtrak tickets are killer expensive, especially if you want to get back at a normal time on a Sunday. What part of town are you going to be in? What type of food are you up for (steaks? seafood? italian? exotic?) Are you in to beer, wine, or old-school cocktails?

Reasonable to drive the Abarth; if things do not go according to plan, can always leave at your own convenience rather than wait for scheduled transport. Take Bacon along for the ride (will miss the tweeter of the B and O)

Anyway, so scratch that. No bus.

Take the Fiat.

You know you would end up driving the X5! Be honest!

I only ever took the Acela on business but I believe it was usually cheaper to fly than take the Acela. Driving should be fun. Not sure where you are staying but your parking estimate seems to low to me - I seem to remember paying $60 a night for valet parking at the hotel per night.

You guys are hilarious. I have to fish Bacon out of the M5. I keep leaving him in the M5 and forgetting about him. He really enjoyed the track at VIR a couple of weeks ago. He should def come to NYC with me and my chick, oh and the girl I'm dating too.

I found a hotel in Manhattan that has an underground garage and the parking is reasonable. I can't remember the pricing, but I know it's not going to cost me $1,000 bucks to park for the weekend. Lol! The hotel and it's garage we're originally intended for the M5, so it should be good enough for the Abarth.

Yeah I got worked because I didn't check my options. I just checked the W website and they offer self-parking at $35. I think what I paid was expensive because of valet. Was a rental car.

What are you guys talking about? Both the M5 and the Abarth have turbo's. They blow quite nicely. I'm hoping, those aren't the only things that will be blown this weekend.

@RPiM5 yeah don't drive the M5 into NY especially now. If you get caught in the weather you will not feel safe to keep rolling forward, and the tires will already be bricks.
I have a M5 and S63 (w/ renntech tune) in the city right now. Both have snows fitted.. it's just a necessity. Can't drive either without. Also always watch for potholes / road creators.

If you want a cheap and probably decent hotel to stay at for a few hours or a night.. near Times Square just outside the Lincoln tunnel there's a Yotel. There's a garage directly under it. Never stayed there though.

Four seasons on 57th/58th or the Ritz near battery park. Always stay at one of those depending on where in the city I want to be. I always pay to have my car kept in the front. Very easy that way.

Now a days I live on 5th and in the 30's. Have been there for six months so far. Been using yelp to find amazing, amazing places to eat. If you need any rec's to eat just PM me.. but yelp is your friend

If you don't want to deal with driving throughout the city or have to deal with parking, you can park the car once and use Uber to get around. I do that sometimes.. they have black car's and black SUV's. You use you phone to hire, can GPS track where they are, and payment is automatic using your uber account so you can jump in and jump out.

I'm sure there is a lot more I could recommend; give me a location on where you might be staying (sheraton on 53rd is always nice.. as is the W if you are going to midtown).

Thanks bro. I've already got a hotel picked out. Yeah I just started using Uber last weekend when I took a trip up to Boston to visit a friend of mine. My friends up there introduced me to Uber and I even used it to get from the city to the airport. Very nifty, convenient and classy. I loved it. I may use it when were in NYC this weekend. I might hit you up to ask for places to eat. We'll be doing a lot of the touristy stuff while were there. Thanks!
