What mileage for first oil change?
I'm currently at 7,000 miles on a F30 335i xDrive and thinking about doing my first oil change. Not sure if I should do it on my own or take it into the shop. If the oil filter is easy access, I may just do it on my own. The bottom of the vehicle is covered with what looks like a sheet of plastic. Not sure how easy it is to access the filter. Anyone with experience?

I did my 1st oil change this morning at 2800 miles. It was the easiest oil change I've ever done. There is a door/flap on the panel underneat that lets you access the drain plug.

That would be the easiest oil change of my personal experience. I've changed it on older hondas (my first couple cars years ago) and they weren't bad either, just had to lift the car to get under it as obviously would need to be done on these. I'm mostly concerned about the filter placement and tight quarters and the fact that everything on these cars seems to be covered with some sort of plastic. I swear I can't get the engine cover back on solidly. There seems to be a slight amount of 'play' in the front ever since I took it off and I have no idea why the connections aren't as snug as they were before I popped it off.. |

Question, why would you have to do the oil change yourself? Isn't that covered in the 4 -year / 50,000 miles whichever comes first maintenance that's included that will be done by BMW service?

There appears to be much debate between following the manufacturers recommended oil change or shorter intervals. I prefer to change at 6,000 mainly because the car has been driven hard. Repeated hard acceleration and driving 120 to 150 mph several hours on end in the European autobahn I'm certain takes it toll on the general wear and tear of internals not to mention lubricants. Just a personal preference. |

Seems my post got moved from a F30 forum to the M5 maintenance page. Would prefer to move this post to the F30 maintenance page as it is a better fit there. Thanks.

I went yesterday for an oil change and they told me under warrantee they will change it around 11k. I only have 4500 but don't like these long intervals they call for. I think it is a way for them to save money. Since its an m car you would think they would change it more.
