For those who use M5 for Daily Driver
For those of you using your M5 as a daily and have to contend with winter weather conditions....
What tires are you using? Anyone using the Continental DWS as a winter tire?

those are not really winter tire, if you live in snow belt area. They may be alright for dusting of snow.
Michelin PA4. But they wear really fast. After 2 full winters of usage (with rotation), they are basically done as the car has too much torque applied to the tires. The PA4 has good traction to about 15cm of snow, anything more would be a bit of challenge. |

Same here, with the Sottozero. I did the complete swap to the BMW Winter setup: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/41...-TIRE-ASSEMBLY
I didn't traverse anything super nasty this past winter, but I felt fairly confident in the snowy conditions I was in.

I have the Sottozeros which are a great high performance winter tire, but they are on the performance end of the spectrum. They are a winter tire NOT a snow tire. There is a big difference. The PSS are terrible in the snow, but they are also pretty bad in the cold temps even when the roads are dry. It is not what their compound is designed for. They will also wear much more quickly when used in the cold temps. So you are actually being fiscally responsible by buying a winter setup.
You defnintely need winter tires in the Northeast. But if you are looking to be able to use the M5 in anything but a dusting to an ich or so, you might be happier with the Blizzaks. If you want to be able to be out there in a few inches of snow or more, I have no suggestions.

Bridgestone Blizzacks, they've been great. Good cold weather performance and reasonable traction in snow. Also, the wear has been phenominal - I may have to replace them due to age before I run out of tread!

I have blizzaks no good for cold temps vs Pirelli you loose all the great M feeling actually quite depressing. If your driving on snow there great if your in NJ 99% on treated Tarmac pirellis the way to go.

The car did extremely well on the tires, driving in all kinds of winter conditions, including heavy snow. I agree with previous comments about considering low temperatures, even without snow. The car can be quite a handful on summer tires when the temperatures are down in the low 40s (F) or below.

I purchased the BMW winter wheel and tire package with the Pirelli Sotozero's and style 409 wheels. Squared config with 255's on 19"s at all four corners.
I am home office based, so I am able to stay in when needed. And if I must go out, my wife has an X5 with Conti DWS tires. It did great this past winter here in Philly.

I use nokian winter tires, they were better than the common Pirelli and Michelin performance snow tires and handled better in the dry as well. The tail happy m5 was tamed for winters if that is possible
