M5 - carbon brakes?
I'm considering adding these to my order, but unsure...
Has anyone got them and any comments? Noisy when cold? Had any damage from road stones/etc? Cheers Mat Edit... I've searched high and low on the forums, but the opinion is a little unclear. I'm after some input from those who've had them for a while, Darude for instance.

I've had them on my M6 since September. No damage or chips and very little noise - you might get a tiny bit of squeal when wet but you can't really hear it in the car and it's very infrequent.
They have great feel whether hot or cold and you can feel the difference against normal brakes everytime you use them (although you do get used to them and then wonder why normal brakes don't feel so good!). There are none of the reported characteristics of earlier-gen ceramics such as poor feel when cold or excessive noise. They also create absolutely no brake dust whatsoever so the wheels always look relatively clean. It's my first proper experience of ceramics and they've ended up being one of my favourite options on the car. Last edited by Palmnuts; 01-05-2014 at 06:25 PM.. |

Thanks for the comments Unfortunately when I go to speak to my dealer - the car has entered build So that's that. Retrofit, £8k ish for the kit.

I now wish I had ordered them, after washing and leaving in the garage, the brakes lock on causing a bang/thud when braking free ( really annoying)the rust formed comes off after the first braking but goes on the wheels making them look shite if they are black wheels.
I try to press the brake peddle on and off a few times before driving to release the brakes but this does not always work. Shite design if you ask me.

I would get them just for the non magnetic brake dust feature. Although the 343M's are a lot easier to clean than the old E60 M5 wheels.

Another thing to bear in mind is that they definitely don't make the car stop any quicker under normal circumstances. Yes, they 'feel' better and will keep the braking performance more consistent for longer, but they're still subject to the same laws of physics of hauling a near 2-tonne car down and, ultimately, tyre grip. |

my m5 has not ceramic brakes and its THE LCI m5. My view on ceramic breaks, if you buy the car and plan on keeping it past warranty then buy the ceramic brakes they last almost the life of the car. if you lease it or do not plan on keeping it past the warranty then its not worth it.

Absolutely! I got the CCB just so that I don't ever have to deal with brake dusts!

I am also considering adding these to my build. I am a spirited driver and do a lot of breaking and I am hoping to track the car maybe a couple times a year. I notice that last post was January of this year. Does everybody who has them still like them? Is there anything new about them good or bad? I don't want to pay $9200 for looks.

I've tracked them and they are phenomenal. If I was ordering a new F10/12 I would absolutely spec them

Agree with @Hoopumpers... Must have CCB's if you're going to track. Phenomenal stopping. No fade. No brake dust on the 601's is a bonus.

Get them afterwards and sell the stock ones for a couple grand. It'll be cheaper than ordering from factory.

The retro fit is $14k for parts and new on the car is $9200. Even with selling the OEM brakes this makes no sense. Please explain why this would be a better idea.
