M5 F10 - Gearbox BANG

Hi All

I've noticed on occasions when only in comfort mode, when I don't floor it, but progressively accelerate all the way down to floor, with a slow foot movement, it goes to, what I think, drop a gear when it realises i'm wanting speed, but it almost like it jams, makes a bang/clunk, and doesn't accelerate - naturally I ease off the throttle right away, then reapply, then ok.

It's like its realising I am wanting speed, goes to drop a cog, then it doesnt engage.

Problem with the gearbox, or just a quirk? Never does it when I am on full kickdown type driving.

Usually happens when coming off a roundabout (USA = interchange), in 4th gear...from 40mph upwards

Any ideas?

Cheers

Have not Experience that but have heard anything like this

The noise is prevalent when the car is cruising approx at 45 MPH in 4th gear, 0r 35 mph in 3rd gear when you let off the throttle and the car is in deacceleration mode you hear and feel a clunk and then when you get on the throttle and the car gets back into acceleration you hear it again. I believe it might be the driveline connection to the transmission, possibly the U-Joint. Has anybody else experience this.

Also they Vehicle has had an engine Swap covered under warranty and BMW certified Dealership, Prior to the engine swap the noise was not present.

have experienced the same...

Hi E6 RDM,

I have had the same issue you described. Only a handful of times in the last year of driving but it is still frustrating - did you solve the problem?

Regards,
Rory
