I have kind of gone off it for the moment. I put a deposit down on the M4, and got fed up of waiting. I definitely would tick every option on that car (worth having), and so when competition pack and LCI comes out I'd be angry ... so I went for the M5. I am toying with Austin Yellow and Red interior But... people are telling me the M5 will convert me and I won't want one? What about you? Cheers Mat

I used to love the way the M3 would slow down like crazy as soon as you lifted off the throttle. Apparently all BMW's are going this way (or have even), as they use it to reduce emissions. Mat

I was supposed to go into the dealers today to look at what deal could be done but I'm not going to bother. I wouldn't sign up to a new motor that I haven't had a go in and as we all know, the deals/comp packs/editions will arrive. To be honest I love the M5 more than I thought I would, it's got so much presence. I only play in her at the weekends so I can't wait for some dry weather to really appreciate what they can deliver. Yeah I felt the presence of the M5 when I tested it, and not only that... I've noticed 1 M5 since I ordered mine... 8 weeks ago. So they are a lot rarer than the M3 which is nice. It's good to hear you love the M5 more than you thought, will be interesting to see how I get on with mine. It's more practical too with the other doors. Expecting the Akra stuff this week, can't wait to see the tips. Cheers Mat

I've had 3 M3's in the last 2 years - one a year old and two spankers. My first (e93) was a year old...I was coming up the ranks from 320d's to 335i's. I got hooked and needed the pinnacle of the 3 series, the M3. On my first drive in the M3 I was disappointed..the lack of turbos stank. I soon bought a new M3 (e92) and with the reduced weight and improved stiffness of the e92 chassis, in combination with the knowledge you needed to bury the right pedal to get a reaction, I was happy again. So much so I bought 2 in 7 months (lets not go there). So back to your thread. I got a call from my stealer....we have a new M5 LCI for the weekend and you should have a go. (Fookers, like I would say no). I was absolutely blown away...it looked so in charge, supported by the interior quality. So off we set thinking its way to big which would soon show through in the performance.... ....OMG...Mental. It's the only car I have owned that's makes smile every time I drive it. I had a go in her today, the first time in a week. She was warmed up and we went to get some V power. I pulled out the garage exit quickly to blend into the oncoming traffic, arse out....again I had to smile and shout OMG. Can't wait for warmer days. Last edited by Stiggly; 02-09-2014 at 12:27 AM.. |

Sounds good Simon
My car will only be driven a few times a week too same as my M3 was. The M3 was my first petrol car, 330d 330cd 335d was my route prior with BMW. I do still love the diesel torque but they are totally different to the M series. Didn't get to see one but according to the guide - at the marriage section you can see a huge difference between the normal and M series powertrains. Much more of it and more substantial. Another thing that stood out is because everyone works for just 90 secs on each car each car is just a car... the nice ones don't really stand out as much. Cheers Mat |

What a great experience you had there! I like a good old car factory visit - I particularly thought the AMG facility in Affalterbach was cool (it's a private tour and they treat you like VIP's!).
We're going on a European road trip next week and on the way back I've got BMW Welt and the Munich factory tour on the agenda - doesn't sound like it'll be as good as the Dingolfing factory (are any M's made at the Munich plant?) but I'm looking forward to it anyway. Hoping to have my first look over of an M3/4 too. Unfortunately not going in the big M....there's four of us going (I couldn't do that to the back seat passengers!) and I've got winter tyres on our M135i so makes sense to go in that! |
