Goodbye M5, hello S8!

After having the M5 for about 19 months, I've decided it's time for something a little different. Test drove a few cars( alpina b7, s63, s7, panny turbo, and S8). I was hoping to drive an rs7 but there aren't any around here and the butt, like be panny, just doesn't do it for me. Literally found an S8 being unloaded off a truck and it caught my eye. Went inside, spoke to the gm, and after about an hour made a deal. Optioned almost perfect for me(only thing I would have added would be the b&o I love it my M5) but the bose wasn't all that bad. Someday I will be back in an M5 I'm sure, but giving audi a shot and I hope I made the right move. So here she is...

Thanks! It is big, but i have to say it's so comfy. I am used to driving big vehicles, my dd is an f350 crew cab lol! So anything feels amazingly nimble compared to that. Should be picking it up Wednesday if I can get me e-race off my car this weekend and my stock wheels switched over. Quick interior shot-
Love the carbon everywhere

May the Bimmer gods have mercy on your soul...

Kidding, sounds like you deployed due diligence and found the best vehicle to match your expectations and needs. And, it's probably a better fit considering the imminent Boston winter. The AWD and exploitable 4.0TT should provide lots of enjoyment...

Congrats. I've always liked the looks of the S8 - too big for me though. Good choice for the impending winter. With the G wagon (and the F350) you are ready for tons of snow.

Nice acquisition--- what modes are you driving it in? I broke my RS7 up and down the rpm ranges in Dynamic mode under D-S. What a car you have? And wait until you tune it (if you choose), the gains are incredible under an AWD platform.

Haven't even brought it home yet! I def want to talk to you about tuning though. I was doing a little reading last night about it but I know you have real world experience and wanted your input. This buy was all just timing. I was almost set on the b7 because of how similar it was to the M5 inside It made me feel comfortable. If the salesman wasn't screwing with mf numbers and trying to give me 55k for my m5 with 8100 on the odometer, I would have been driving it already. Everything happens for a reason and I'm really excited about this car.

The g wagon was involved in a minor accident and then while it was at the body shop I got a call from my insurance co saying it was involved in another accident! Still under investigation I haven't even gotten it back yet. God news is that matte paint can be matched perfectly that was my biggest concern. I was trying to dump the g wagon and the M and consolidate into one vehicle but nobody wants a g wagon with 1000 miles on it that has a bad car fax. So I figure when I get it back I will drive it and enjoy it a little and see if I can find an exporter to take it overseas.

I broke my 4.0TT engine like I do all my other cars:

run up and down the rpms on the street and highway driving
dont redline for long, just hit and come down
run thru the gears and rpms per each gear

Basically I just drive it hard with no traffic around vs just sitting in stop and go. I do push the speeds to mid triple digits early on to stretch the seals and get the car ready early on for what I will being doing to it daily = rape it. LOL. Since you are AWD; launch it hard and you will get good rpm runs and gear exposure.

Just one of many articles on "break in"

Good article on break in thank you. Funny thing on the diesel trucks we have i break them all in the same way you described. Run it up and down through the rpm's and I have never had any of the issues that other owners experience. It makes sense obviously no need to run it at redline but put it through its paces in almost a controlled manner.

55k for 8,100 miles on the odometer?!?!!!! Fucking ridiculous!! I'd almost throw the chair through the dealership window if they offered me that. Dealerships are mostly crooks. I say mostly cause I know they are all not that bad. Makes we want to become a law maker and propose changes to let the manufacturer sell direct to the consumer like Tesla does. That would take decades and cost thousands of lives, so it probably won't happen though (Animal House reference). Lol!

The S8 is pretty awesome. I feel even the 760Li isn't in the same league as the S8. Does it have the upgraded Full Leather Option? Last time I checked it was an $18,000 option! LOL! Also make sure you play with the interior lighting at night, super awesome feature!

Yes $55k! Mercedes and audi both stepped it up and I got $70k , on paper anyways. The S8 doesn't show full leather as an option, but I don't even know where they would put more leather ln that thing. I don't have full leather on the M5, the only part that bothers me about it is the rubber dash. The s8's dash is wrapped in leather and there is carbon fiber everywhere in this thing, even on back of the seats. Looks pretty neat! It's really just a different car than a BMW, not better not worse. Really just has its own feel to it.

I have to add one thing-I sat in he new s550 coupe edition 1 at the Benz dealer and I think that is probably one of the nicest interiors I've ever seen. If the back wasn't so small though...

The S8 was the car that beat the sh*t out of that Alpina B7 in that Motor Trend video review.

Also it looks like your car has the Piano Black interior (versus the Carbon Fiber interior in the Saabkyle video).

Piano Black > carbon fibre (but you can't really go wrong with either)

Anyways, congrats on your ride and enjoy the Audi exhaust sound (which is surprisingly good for V8 Turbo on stock exhaust)

Another accident at the body shop or one before you bought it? Bummer.

Another accident while it was at the body shop supposedly. They say it never happened but my insurance company says they are sending out an adjuster on Monday. The claim is that my vehicle struck another vehicle on 10/12. The truck has been in the body shop since 9/24. Someone has some explaining to do.

While staying at a high luxury hotel in Dallas earlier this year the wife and I were chauffeured to a Dallas Stars game in one of the courtesy vehicles, and Audi A8. I was absolutely blown away at the level of coolness inside that car. It was like riding in hip luxury. And as Dave mentioned, the lighting is just wild. I couldn't stop asking the driver questions. Absolutely loved it.

Good pick up!
