Trying to save this poor M5
Hello everybody, I'm new here and this is my first post
I bought a 2013 M5 through an auction, the vehicle has some significant hail damage, mostly on the hood, roof, trunk, and doors. Now the best way to do a neat job will be to replace trunk and hood with same color used parts (color code is B41 Singapore grey) so I did some search online and find another option, which is carbon fiber, my question is as follows: 1. Will the vehicle depreciate with carbon fiber parts vs OEM or same color. 2. Does anybody know where I can get Singapore grey parts or carbon fiber? 3. Thank you for your help. 4. I found a carton in the trunk, when I opened it guess what.. it was a Dinan kit inside I'll address that later. Trying to focus on the body first. Last edited by HAM5; 08-30-2019 at 07:30 AM.. |

I think that a carbon roof would look super cool, but that will involved a sunroof delete and stuff also. Would give it the same roof style as the F80/F82 M3/M4 or the new M5. Regarding hood and trunk I wouldn't go carbon, but it's all a matter of opinion. I think it's too much on a car like this unless you found some high quality stuff and painted it.

A carbon hood and boot lid would look super with roof panel beat and fill repair with carbon cover and the sunroof stays. It's what some people look for than the standard.
Alternatively do the roof and just replace the bonnet and boot with repainted second hand panels. The downside to weaker alloy panels is that they can't stand up to that sort of punishment like steel ones. |

Stock panels, carbon is too niche and will really effect its re-sale.
I would never buy a car where the owner had cut the roof out and put a new one in, too much risk that its not done right. The roof is integral to the structure of the car and I wouldnt trust an aftermarket part to be good enough |

Personally not a fan of carbon fiber aesthetics, but it's your car and it's a salvage title, so do what you want! You shouldn't worry about effects on resale value because that's already taking a huge hit being salvage. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the car "out the door" after fees, etc.? You can PM me if you don't want to post it.
Congrats on getting lucky and finding a present in the trunk! Is it a piggyback tune? (wiring harness, etc.) |

My $0.02 - I will stay as close to stock as possible. Yes, CF will look cool but I also feel the overly CF car is more suited to the M3/4 types vs a larger family sedan like the M5. Again, to each his own.

man, I'd hate to buy that car as a clean title vehicle. But, with that said, stay as close to OEM stock as possible to retain as much value as possible. As everyone else mentioned, aftermarket parts don't add and may even take away from value.
Great find though! Personally, I'd keep it and go wild on it.

I would be careful. It even says "total" right on the windshield. You may have received a "clean title" from the auction house but if it was reported by insurance as a total loss you will have issues with Carfax, etc. in the future and possibly with registering it.
Do you already have the title transferred to your name? That would help give peace of mind. |

This is going to be a rebuilt title.
But an easy fix. The easy route is what you are doing. But ived suffered similar hail damage and the secret is to find a PDR compay to fix and retain the hood and trunk. It would probably cost about $12-15k just for the body panels then the trims. So it depends how much you paid for it but it still would be a rebuilt title.

The force of those hail stones pounding down is horrifying, they could very well injure if not do worse for someone caught outside with no cover.
