It's actually a carbon fibre box given by the dealer during new car delivery. It contains the user manual, key chain, luggage tag, owner's plaque, 2 keys, key fob leather case, and a cash card.

How is power delivery compared to your N54, was yours tuned? I'm curious as to whether the V8 turbos behave like the N54 where torque is instantaneous at 2k. I read you said it pulls until redline but so does my tune.

Again I'm curious as to power delivery and throttle input compared to an N54. I already know the S63tu has more power and is a better power plant.

I don't have any experience with an aftermarket tuned N54. My 135i only had the BMW perf power kit giving it an additional 20 bhp and 50Nm. The N54 at that tune is pretty lag free, but hopeless above 5000 rpm. As said, even at 2k with your N54, i doubt it's instantaneous for every gear at 2k. The S63TU pulls very strongly at 7000 rpm and instantaneous at 2000 rpm for the lower gears.

A fellow mate who recently ordered an M5 told me he used to own a modded 335i with the full works and rated > 400 bhp. He thot the M5 feels a lot more powerful than even that car.

Yes, I am aware of the lowest possible gear downshift method I tried it a few times before. It's certainly useful on a highway when required, but it's brutal!
I wonder if you could simply paint the current piece to whatever color you wanted? Powder coat maybe?

You are quite levelheaded about it scratching so easily--I am genuinely impressed!

My sales guy said it's not from BMW, but custom ordered by them for new M owners. I am not sure where they order the box from though.

Just got a call from the dealership that the center piece is not available in any other color. I guess I will just have to wait a little while more as F10 M5 accessories from BMW is non-existent at the moment. As for me being levelheaded, can't really fault the dealership. I draw a line between dealer and BMW liability. No sense taking it out on the dealer when it's a bad design by BMW themselves. Afterall, it din scratch itself right? That center piece u see is the classic BMW bean counter signature. I only hope alternative trim will be available soon.

Is there any way you could ask your dealership where they got the box from? I would love to give that to my clients as a gift when they pick up an M Car from me?

Great review! I just have one question. I had read about the "piped in" sounds of the engine through the cars speakers, which you also wrote about. Is there a setting on iDrive or whatever that would allow you to simply turn that off? If you didn't want or care to hear the "fake" engine sounds? Just curious. Thanks.

This question has been asked many times on forums. It cannot be disabled and works even if u turn off the stereo unless u yank out the fuse. Please read this for more info:

Thanks for that info! Great stuff. I'm really surprised that BMW didn't give its owners the option of turning off the piped-in engine sounds through the speakers, I would think there would be owners who from time to time would like a very quiet environment when making business phone calls, etc. (hands-free of course) while driving. Maybe it will be in a future software update.

How much do they make?
I am very curious...I think about 4-5K

I also got a BMW cake and a key chane.

I showed the dealer the thread and he said that the box is to expensive to give away for free.

Using the declared manufacturer value and factoring all the resultant import duties, my M5 should cost USD$265,384, but i paid USD$399,040. They provide 5 years free maintenance plus paying BMW for warranty, so that should cost a bit more. Bear in mind that is gross profit. We need to factor in infrastructure and business cost. Land cost is extremely high in Singapore and that squeaky clean service bay ain't gonna clean itself. In any case, the profit margin is very high for premium cars here.
