Anybody else's M5 whine like a supercharger?

I just got this thing 2 weeks ago so I've been accumulating a list of things for the dealer to look at since it's still under warranty for a few more months. Although I'll be extending it here soon.

Noticed this past weekend.. when I go WOT in 3rd and do a hard run.. it whines inside like a supercharger. Not sure if this is normal or if it's due to ASD. I'm going to disable ASD later and see if this sound is still happening.

Anyone else's whines?

I've seen other places where people have reported whining on cold start. But this is getting on the highway when the oil temp is above 160 already.

Could there be an aftermarket intake? Possible charcoal delete + drop-ins? This may be the whine you hear. I don't believe it's ASD related.

No aftermarket intakes. I'll have to open up the airboxes soon to check for the charcoal filter.

You never know ... charcoal delete w/ drop-ins will produce whine as and when described in your post.

mine does it, it did go away a little after swapping to k&n drop ins

did you notice any difference when you replaced the filters with KN?

After the turbo charger kicks in I stick my head out the window and howl like a supercharger to get that extra push when racing a Honda Accord.

Yes, with the ASD pulled, WOT has louder induction noise than exhaust note in my experience.

I've noticed this at WOT too, 2016 done it since new, always assumed it was ASD. Maybe not then? Anyone think it's worth getting ASD turned off?

Also in a 16, I disabled ASD before end of break in perod so never did WOT with ASD on. The induction sound was more noticeable almost immediately after disabling ASD, even under partial throttle.

My late 2013 (think it's '14 spec) does it too, it's just the turbos. Couldn't hear it as much if at all with the ASD on. Since I disabled it i can hear the whine and the actual exhaust a lot better

funny you mentioned that cuz mine started sounding like that as well. Im thinking its the drop in temp that is making the turbo haul a bit more.

same I hear faint whine noise when accelerating. definitely not a turbo spooling noise.

i started hearing some whining/squeak noise recently only on deceleration at around 1-1.5k rpm. scheduled appointment to bring it in to the dealer next week. will report back soon.

Different platform, similar engine. My research on the whine has led me to the oil pump. Usually dismissed by the dealer as normal. Sure as hell doesn't sound normal...

No ASD, whine is the same pre- and post- RK intakes.
