Rattle/Buzz in M Sport Steering Wheel Solved!!
Here it is! I figured out the problem with the M Sport steering wheel. This steering wheel is on the 3, 5, 6 Series and probably a few other cars. There is a rattle or buzz that occurs while driving on rough surfaces and goes away on smooth road. It drove me bananas for a long time until yesterday. I road tested my vehicle and the noise is gone. I put together a tutorial to fix the problem and attached it to this post. Feel free to repost this anywhere you think it may help someone.

This didn't fix it. It's there is a little vertical play on the shaft of the motor that causes the issue. Had the motor replaced and it didn't fix if. Going to dry another motor swap

I have this issue from time to time, fortunately not very often.
Having a background in electronics and automation, and about 25 years work experience with electrical systems, the sound I hear does sound like the typical squeak you get from an electrical motor that is either worn, or has a bad bearing/axial play. I would agree with dylonsays that the problem is probably the motor.

Fixed my buzzing noise that I was getting at speeds over 60 over bumps and rough roads from the steering wheel. It’s the metal clip holding the vibrator in place. I simply taped to to the wheel n no noise!!

update issue not fixed its the gold piece that spins that makes the buzzing sound because it has play in it up and down and somehow the way it vibrates from road bumps causes that noise..
is there a way to code out that vibrator unit all togeher? if i unplug it it will throw a lane departure malfuction so unplugging is not a option |

I’ve tried “everything” to try to fix this. I have a 2013 m5, 1st and only owner. Around 4 years into ownership it started giving me this issue. BMW replaced my steering wheel 2x, components inside, and a bunch of other things… nothing fixed it. I learned to live with it, being I probably drive it about 1 month out of the year. If anyone ever resolve this let me know lol !

what i did was simply tape the bronze weight so it does not move up or down and i turned off the land departure system no noise, i lose the land departrue but i can live with that as long as i dont hear that nose that makes this car sound like a rattle can. |
