Parking Lot Hit and Run - Rear Bumper and 1/4 Panel - Cost estimate Help?

Hi all,

Posted this imgur link on reddit /r/bmw while slightly frustrated this morning...but wanted to get a ballpark of what I'm looking at to fix this out of pocket from anyone who's experienced something similar now that I'm over the initial discovery...and figuring out what to do next.

Ideally, I'd like to avoid jacking my insurance rates up by filing a claim (Deductible is $500 Collision/$250 Comp ...which I don't think applies here) - but I'm worried that with the quarter panel getting pushed in as well as the minor rear bumper damage that it'll be $1,500+ which would really suck to have to write a check for from some asshats negligence and lack of responsibility.

Three other questions:

Should I go ahead and file a police report...as especially if I decide to fix out of pocket - would this likely get reported to carfax and ding resale value down the road then?

I'm assuming it's fine to drive ~30 Miles back to a shop highly recommended by my family & dealership - and that there aren't any electronics I need to be worried about?

Best dashcam system to prevent this from happening again. I've found Blackvue and the BMW OEM solution are both viable...anything else?

Any and all thoughts/opinions are much appreciated.

fuck, that quarter took a lick.

i'd charge someone probably 100-1300 to fix that.

Repair quarter, and bumper, refinish both. Need to make sure that taillight fits back correctly after bodywork is done.

Thanks - that puts me at ease as I did end up in that ballpark and above my initial (albeit uninformed) expectation! Great point on the tail light being flush post repair...I'll make sure to check that when picking the car up.

My insurance and my selected repair shop (not affiliated with insurance - but highly suggested via dealer and uncle) quoted within $50 of each other. $2,000 all in for Repair & refinish Bumper, Repair & refinish 1/4 panel, and some other misc moulding/trim stuff around there.

Ouch that hurts, I had a similar hit and I paid about $2000.

I would file a report, just in case you ever need it. It doesn't report to the insurance nor car fax.

Blackvue is my most favorite dashcame. They have a front and rear camera, has great features, wifi connectivity, and it's discrete.
