New F90 M5 S63tu4 engine improvements: Perhaps for retrofit to F10 M5 S63tu engine

Caught this today on www.BMW.de.

There is a good infographic on some of the improvements on the S63tu engine, now named the S63tu4 for the F90 M5. Some of these improvements might be implementable on F10 M5's with the S63tu engine. This is why I posted this here, in case anyone wants to try to transfer some of the new engine parts over to the F10 M5 engine.

Notable new parts include:

- New Engine Oil System
- New Intercoolers (Bigger)
- New Fuel Pumps and Fuel Injector designs which now pump at 350bar instead of 200bar in the F10 M5.
- New Turbos
- New Exhaust Manifolds for the Turbos
- New Downpipe Design

You will have to scroll down the page to see the infographic on the S63tu4 engine and it is interactive. You can also copy and paste the German text over to Google Translate like I did for English translation.

Of note, I think the biggest improvement out of all of them is the new fueling system. 350bar over 200bar is a huge jump. The fuel pumps themselves will be super expensive though. I am guessing, if one were to try and source the S63tu4 fuel pumps and new fuel injectors over to the F10 M5 S63tu engine, it could run about $8,000 USD. But I am just guessing based on how much I know the S63tu pumps and injectors run.

I also noticed, but I am not sure yet, that I don't think the engine oil cooler is an improved design. I will have to do more research on this, but if it is a new design for the F90 with greater cooling capacity this would be a very worthwhile upgrade to see if it would fit on the F10 M5. Same with the new intercoolers.

Good find!

The fueling seems interesting. Wonder if this is for higher atomization (emissions) or really for more fuel.

Maybe they made the manifold and turbos worse so stock cars with a tune don’t make 750hp+

It's funny but it looks to me that the manifolds look exactly the same. Lol!

It'll be interesting to find out exactly what new parts are in the new turbos too or how they redesigned them. Or at least for someone to pull off the F90 M5 turbos and do a flow test on them to see what their new flow rate is.

I'm just waiting for the technical docs on the engine, should lay out all differences between the engines. It's fun even reading the X5M/X6M documents just ot see the differences there.

I would be interested in the fuel pumps and injectors and bigger inter coolers. If I were to rebuild I would look at there oil system also. I wonder if the changed the bearings lol.

It's to split injection pulsing, they're probably doing 2-3 pulse sequence for atomization instead of one long pulse. This causes less soot which the EPA has been slamming the OEMs on last couple years to reduce. You need more pump to get more pulses and the injector design changes along with pump.
