Fuel gauge malfunction?
Guys, I am confused by behavior of the F10 versus E60 and hoping for help. I was doing some long highway driving and the reported mileage started with a "2" and the next digit was not a "0" or a "1." As the trip mileage on the tank went past 150, then 175, then 200, the "Low Fuel Warning" failed to chime as is customary in the E60. I felt a bit scared that I might run dry.
After filling up, the estimated fuel range was 432 miles. Let me repeat that: estimated range on M5 with full tank was 432 miles (that first digit is a "4" not a "2"). Kind of lame, but I have to say that the RANGE is one of the best new features of this car compared to E60! |

Improved range was one of the priorities in developing this iteration of the M5. The overall size of the tank is no bigger than that of an ordinary F10 5er, but instead of using 4 mm thick plastic, the M5 uses 0.7 mm thick steel tank, thus yielding an additional 2.6 gal of capacity.
