Tracking tyre pressure
Hi,
Could you please guys help how much to deflate the tyres for track use of F10 M5? I'm having the 343 M wheels in 20" size. Thank you. |

If your going to be tracking the M5 on a hot day, I'd go to about 32psi on all 4 tires. If it's really hot out, you'll see temps over 120 degrees in the tires.

After a hard 20 minute lap session, the pressure in my tires went up 8-10 psi.

Some ultra high performance street tyres have small 'triangles' slightly raised on the top of the sidewall tread showing where the maximal contact patch should be. If you aren't noticing that the tread wear is coming over to those triangles you are over inflated; if the tread wear is past the triangles, then you are under inflated. Just another data point to use. What is the gold standard of course is tyre temperature which you should have someone measure for you in the hot pits. You will be attempting to have the same hot temperatures across the whole of the contact patch. Furthermore, remember that you most probably will have to have different psi in the tyres, front, rear, side to side, depending on the layout of the track and whether it is clockwise versus anti clockwise.
Taking the time to get tyre pressures right is vital not just for safety or increased speeds and better handling, but also in tyre longevity. Having a $400 tyre 'chunk', (throw off tread blocks), and be ruined makes for a very expensive weekend! lol Good luck and have fun. |
