I agree. I am actually happy that they didn't change any structural body parts like bumpers, fenders, hood, boot. That would have had a significant impact on 2013 resale.

These changes are so minor, they barely qualify as an LCI IMO. In the resale market there is little demand for LED headlights and a competition package.

People act as if they were cheated out of the competition package. I wonder if they will feel the same way when they realize it is a $15k+ option. Given the low take rate of Carbon Ceramic Brakes, I suspect very few people would have ordered the competition package, especially when $15k buys you much more effective after-market tuning.
that's true. I have only seen a handful of m5s where I live since I got mine. so they're not exactly flying off the lots. I guess I just needed to vent a little. and you're right about that competition package not coming cheap. so I doubt I'll see many of those around.

1st. They should have made it a badazz the first time around. So by saying that, it sucks.

2nd. I dont try to keep up with the Jones so there is nothing I can do about it but enjoy what I have purchased.

3rd. Wait til one pulls up to me and let him rev his motor while mine overpowers his making him wish he bought the 12-13 version thus saving him money.

BMW has a right to maximize their profits just like every other company that puts out products after already designing the next version of them. the only problem with this approach is in the long term they will piss off enough of its customer base that we will spend our good money elsewhere just out of spite. what they fail to realize is that there are less and less real differences between high performance cars. the most important intangible thing is brand loyalty, and they are sabotaging themselves by making our less than 1 year old M5s seem outdated.

respect.
Doubtfull. When you purchased your car, you purchased it knowing the design will change one day and bmw never promised you the M5 will remain the version that you have forever. Sorry your pissed off but thats the car game. I'm just glad i waited. Be happy with what you have, you had it a year longer than us buying now. Go get a set of wheels and a nice drop and go have some fun.

Quite the opposite - super happy

I got my 2013 only weeks ago and I am not at all upset about the "LCI". All the changes that I see are unattractive to me but for the black exhaust tips (still like the carbon Akrapovic better). I like the round LEDs better, I like the smooth grille much bettter, I would have probably taken off the extra M5 badge on the grille (obnoxious). I can't figure our any diffreences in the tail lights. And I am so happy that the performance package is so moderate. I am lining up to get some real performance boost (Schwitzer for example).

Only thing I'm pissed about is the improved steering...really BMW really????? Should be standard from day 1

Retrofit that in my 2013!!! The rest you can keep.

good thing is that cars don't update/change every year like cellphones/computers (but they are way cheaper too). Those upgrade from the '14 competition pack looks/sounds great, but they won't be free and most likely, it'd be carry quite a big price tag. So, not really going to lose sleep over that.

true, the only way to keep up with the updates is to lease cars. But it isn't cheap either. It's the classic debate and cost calcuation of whether it's cheaper to lease or buy in the long run....

The only thing that looks remotely interesting to me is the new programming, they can keep everything else. I personally prefer the 2013 version of the taillights and headlights.

I feel more and more the same way. Although the headlights look very different the tail lights aren't a drastic departure in design. I don't think I'll be retro-fitting anything.

I wonder if we can get BMW to offer a voluntary steering upgrade at no cost.

I remember when I bought my 2001 330Ci Cabriolet, there was a lot of forum feedback complaining about the steering being very light. BMW corrected this issue with a product update. They also informally contacted people on the forum and offered them steering modifications for free. I took my car in and the dealer made the changes at BMWs expense.

Agree. Only thing I might retrofit is the grille, and only if it works with me LIs.

I am with you, the only that I am interested at this point is the new programming...everything else is a toss up. The one thing I do not like at all is the M5 logo in the grill...it is just ugly...

I have the "M Performance" Decals.. So yeah, that'd be overboard for me

I like the double vaned grille design though. It is very different to the standard 5 and it echoes the M double spoke wheel design.

Sales of the car blows. They had to do something. I have yet to see another M5 on the road outside of car meets and I live in NY. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not like you'll ever run into a competition package M5 anytime soon if ever. Now if the package was a no cost option to sell the thing, then that's a different story. People ask why I lease. This is why. I can't wait for the M2

^ This. I just want to know what the steering changes are, in detail.

I'd be up to get something like this going, when we find out exactly how the steering is going to change...i.e., I'd like to drive an updated car.
