Rust?

Hi

Mines a 2013, no damage or mods, I just noticed these bubbles on the forward part of the drivers side rear door, near the hinges. The tape measure is at the bottom of the window. The hinges and that area are all clearly original and unmarked.

What do people think? Rust or just an original quality issue?

Never noticed it before. There’s nothing else anywhere and a couple of small stone chips on bonnet are clean.

Ouch! Is that a ‘thing’ on the F10?

It's not actually rust, it's aluminum corrosion and unfortunately common on the F10/11 platform. Our doors are made of aluminum and you should contact BMW to possibly cover the repair.

Bit disappointing, even its it’s posh rust.

I think I’ll just monitor it for a few months, I don’t want Barney Gumbo in a repair shop turning a small mark into a dodgy paint job.

As mentioned, that should be covered under the BMW corrosion warranty still. Honestly, I'd document it with BMW so it goes in the record and then also see what they say.

Corrosion warranty on a 2013??

Where I live we have some of the best car warranties in the world.
5 year full warranty on new cars, by law.
Typically it's 6 years for corrosion, in some cases 10 years for rot, basically it needs to be corroded a hole, or you car put a screwdriver right through it for that to kick in.

I don't see BMW giving anything for an 8 year car with a few small bubbles.

When I have had cars about to go out of warranty, I always book a warranty expiration check with BMW.

I guess you might not be living in the country with best warranty US has 12 years unlimited miles corrosion warranty. Wouldn't cover if was done by neglecting or due to rock chip. Either way he should document it and call BMW

Impressive, as in most countries the factory warranty is just 2 years, but Norway has a minimum 5 year mandatory warranty.

Looks like you are right though, BMW has since build date 01.01.2004 had 12 year global corrosion warranty ( I must have missed that memo )
As you stated it's for corrosion under paint with no damage, corrosion due to a rock chip will not be covered.

Learn something every day
