Just as several members defect to Porsche...

... I get my M5 CP!

For me, the CP really feels much better than the pre-LCI M5s I previous drove, although understand it will not suit everyone. Closer in chassis feel to my old E46 M3 (without the slightly nervous chassis), whereas I found the pre-LCI cars to be closer to feel to a standard F10, albeit with more feedback.

I've tried to upload some picture, but as this is my first attempt at posting pictures on a forum, might need some assistance.

Whoa. So for just $6k you get an M5 that drives like an M3 as opposed to like a 535i. Lowering the car an inch and boosting hp by 3% makes that much difference. Who would have thought!

Fantastic color choice BTW.

I addition to the F10 M5, I also own an F10 535i M Sport. There is nothing about the standard F10 that is remotely close to the pre-LCI F10 M5 in feel.

I was just going to ask, if that was Moonstone, it looks fantastic. Do you hear any louder exhaust note, than a non comp pack car ?, thankyou.

Did Paul work on your car? He's quite terrific. Spent lots of time there when I was contracting with the BBC on Top Gear.

Opps... controversial 2nd post!

Just came out of an F10 535d (313hp) M Sport with adaptive drive; to put my comments into context, during more sedate driving, in comfort steering/dampers, I personally found that the pre-LCI M5 was close in feel to the M sport, but with much more feedback. The M Sport also had pretty much zero feel as to the limit of grip when cornering. What I did find is that on sweeping on/off ramps or motorway slip road, at speeds where the M Sport felt like it was reaching the limits of it's ability, the M5 seemed to settle down and felt like it was just getting into it's stride. Unfortunately, it's rare that you often get to experience that over here due to the amount of traffic, etc.

The CP has firmer dampers in comfort and a tighter feel on the road over pre-LCI, so it feels instantly different from non-M F10 in comfort dampers (I doubt if I'll use anything but comfort damper setting). I like it this way, but as per original post, not for everyone as CP probably removes some of the dual personality of the non CP/pre-LCI cars.

To wdimagineer; yes, detailed by Paul Dalton (based at same site as the 'secret' Top Gear test track).

LOL; must admit that I did test drive a Cayman S PDK (having been so disappointed in the drive of the adaptive drive F10) and was sorely tempted to the dark side...

The exhaust on the CP is probably the worst part of the package; it still sounds pretty tame (not always a bad thing), although I have not yet driven it hard (still running in) and haven't used anything other than efficient engine setting. The most dominant noise that I'm hearing during running in is the turbo whine!

Fair point - I'm not claiming that CP can defeat the laws of physics, just that the tighter feel from the chassis, at least at lower speeds, is something that I prefer. To some CP will just provide a pointlessly harder ride, with no option to switch to a more comfortable setting.

And yes, I gave my SA a wry smile when he mentioned the extra HP.

The CP comes with 20% firmer damper AND springs while lowering the car 10mm and adding 15% stiffer stabilizer bars and made the steering 20% more direct. Thats essentially what I did to track prep my Z4M going with KW V3's and stiffer ARB's . Its a huge jump and one that anyone can feel if driving the car briskly even on the street. On track you'd have to be a retard to not notice these changes they are that significant. Throw in a non baffled exhaust a slight hp increase at the top of the rpm band where it can actually be used as apposed to spinning tires and free upgrade to 343 wheels and the comp back is a must have option if buying new. Should BMW have made the car this way from the start? Well yes in my opinion but at least they are fixing their mistakes. All post LCI M5/6 have benefited from M going with a stiffer durometer rated bushing in the front suspension supposedly to prepare the cars for the ceramic brake options, which has resulted in the better steering feel people have commented on. Whenever major changes come out early adopters are always pissed off , don't take it personal. Its the trade off of being the guy who "had it first"
