Urgent- how do you guys dyno your car?
At the shop now and since the front wheels aren't moving the car won't go past 2nd gear and has a ABS warning on the dash.
Thanks! Alan

There's a dyno feature in the hidden dash menu. Next time your on the dyno see if it does anything.

So it turns out there isn't much that is needed to be done
On the dyno with the TC off the car will freak out and throw a ABS and other warnings because the front wheels aren't moving. It will prevent you to upshift over 2nd gear unless you get the engine speed over 4000rpm and it will upshift into higher gears for you to dyno. Once off the dyno the car will basically feel like its in limp mode without any power steering but it will reset itself once you get moving for a few feet. Thats how it is on my 2014 550 so it might be the same for the M5 Alan

^^ Question for you...
My horsepower numbers don't add up to where I should be with my tune. How do you know if your car goes into limp mode? The car was throwing out so many warnings it was hard to tell but the ENGINE light was lit on the dash. I stayed on until i reset it with the BT tool. Now i am wondering if the car was in some funky mode causing my lower numbers.... Alan

On one of the liberman car compares to an E63S, he had the M5 on a dyno which had front rollers. They allowed the fronts to spin (or were spinning them) to avoid errors.

Hey, the car throws many warnings but the one that stays on is the "chassis destabilization warning" when you try and drive the car you definitely notice the loss of power and power steering. I normally just let it sit for a few minutes before I take of again. Its been a while I dynoed my car so I dont recall the full text of the warning when you look in idrive

My car def. had that chassis stabilization warning when they pulled it off the dyno so I would assume it had it during the runs too. Maybe that would explain why I was missing nearly 80wtq and 70whp?

All the cars we dynoed (M3s and M5s) showed abs and other warnings after leaving the dyno. It is as someone else said, these warnings drive out after a few minutes. What were your numbers? |

385whp and 418wtq
I should be more closer to 440whp and 490wtq so I am not sure whats going on. I am hoping its due to dyno operator error or one of the faults caused the car to limit boost. What gear are the M5 guys going on the dyno in? I was in 4th but my tuner said I should be using 5th instead. I am use to doing dynos in either 3rd or 4th but then again all of my cars were manual and didn't have 8 gears like my 550. Alan

Three other 2014 N63TU 550s with the same JB tune as me all dynoed around these numbers. The only difference is that they were AWD so didn't have this issue. EAS did another RWD 2014 550 without any issues but those guys know what they are doing. East coast shops....not so much.

So I would say based on that experience, a 17hp gain on a car that dynoed 546 hp stock is basically in the noise, or at least in the natural variation of what is expected. If one of my engineers at work had produced numbers in which the result was smaller than the measured, natural variation, we'd say there was no observable difference. |
