ED drop off question

For those that have done ED before:

When scheduling a drop off in Munich is it necessary to have an exact time appt or just a specific day? I am getting conflicting information.

Thanks in advance for any insight,

matt

You need to call and make an appt for a specific date and time.

Cant u also pay a fee and have them take care of it? Should you just be planning a day trip to Welt and not taking the car off the premise?

Yes, you can pay BMW to take care of it only if you do not take the car. If you drive it off the Welt you have to take it to a drop site with an appt.

+1

It's a 60 Euro fee to just leave the car at The Welt after you take delivery.

My BMW CA has asked me for the dropoff location and date so he can send the information which according to him was needed by BMW HQ to complete my order.

Ive never called ahead in Munich. I don't believe this is correct unless something has changed very recently.

nybimmerfan - I believe ucla85 is correct. It sounds very odd that your CA is asking for the drop-off location now. Mine has not asked for that.

You even do not need to tell BMW prior to delivery if you plan to leave the car at The Welt. They prep every car so that you could drive it off - but you can tell them that day if you wish to just leave the car at The Welt. I spoke to a rep at the special sales group that manages the ED program and got the info "strait from the horse's mouth."

In the confirmation email I got from BMW NA I believe it said to call the drop service and make an appt for drop off. When my CA placed the order he asked on where I was going to drop the car off. I know that BMW requires a drop off location as part of the purchase order for ED generated from the dealer to Munich

I believe BMWNA asks for your dropoff location and date so they can:
1) make sure you're buying enough insurance if you're going over 2 weeks. (or if you plan to drop in Italy that you do it soon enough so that they don't run out of insurance when they drive your car back to Munich)
2) survey which dropoff locations are being used (London was removed a couple of years ago for example, maybe for disuse combined with cost?)

But you can change date/location on the fly (I have) as long as you don't run out of insurance. And I've never had to make an appointment in Munich (other cities you should call). Munich is so busy between BMW, Audi and a surprising amount of Mercs and Porsches. They really kind of have to be there at all opening times.

I'm not sure how flexible the schedules are at the various places you drop off, but I am dropping off on a Monday morning before an 11am flight back to the US from Munich, so I wanted to make sure I had enough time to drop off and still make my flight so I called an made an appointment. The lady said they had lots available that day, but she did say some folks had already scheduled as well.

I do recall my dealer asking me for a drop off location, but if I remember correctly, he just wanted to know what country and around when (I think that was just for planning purposes on the order).

I would suggest that you call one of the drop off places and just ask if you have a tentative day and time and ask them how flexible the appointment is. For me, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't running against a clock to drop off at some random (unsecured place) or have to change my flight to the next day if something happened.

Good luck and please follow up if you end up talking to a drop off location rep.

The EDPO form I completed required a drop off date and location.

Has anyone here dropped off at the Frankfurt location? If so how convenient was it, and did you schedule an appointment ahead of time?

I am dropping off in Munich on a Friday. I have already completed my Purchase Order and have gotten confirmation from Euro Delivery Department on my Purchase Order. I will be staying at the Kempinski Airport Hotel my last night which is right next to the Munich Dropoff Location. Talk about convenience!

Does the dropoff location affect the time it takes to ship the car back to the US?

I plan to drop off the car on Oct 11th but wanted to do PCD before Thanksgiving... not sure if that's possible. I think I should check with my CA later on.

Highly unlikely. Usually about 10 weeks for PCD. East coast dealer should be no prob but sketchy for a West coast delivery even.
