Painting the side gills ?

Hello Chaps,
Is it possible to separate, the outer chrome surrounds, on the side grilles, to have them painted ?. I havent actually taken them off yet, to have a look, i thought i would ask here first. Thought i may go down this route, instead of buying new ones, as its only the outer chrome surround im wanting in gloss black, and it would be far less money to do it this way, thankyou, regards, SIMON.

Hey Simon, yes it is, I took mine apart and wrapped them in gloss black vinyl - looks awesome! You have to be very careful with the clips when separating the chrome from the black section, it's fairly thin plastic.

Hi Simon,

I bought mine from IND but have the originals, I can send you a pic of the rear if it saves you taking yours off.

Thanks for the very speedy replies fellas,
nv6425, they look fantastic, just the finish im after, and they are wrapped, and not painted ?. Hi jbomb, a pic of the rear of the grilles would be very much appreciated, many thanks for that. Did you manage a swift and hassle free transaction with IND, as if i dont do the grilles myself, i think i will follow your lead, regards, SIMON.

Thanks for that Nate. Will have a peep at the factory grilles first, and see if my plan comes to life, regards, SIMON.

Yup, wrapped. I tried to do the front grill as well but I couldn't form the vinyl to the curves of the front grill.

I ordered the painted ones from IND, great product and fast shipping!

Hi Simon,

Yep IND (Nate) were fantastic. Delivered within 10 days perfectly packed and A1 product.
Only downside was that I got charged £44 from customs but that's obviously not IND's fault.
Pm me your email and I will send over a pic.
Cheers.

Just an update on my own thread. I removed one side grille today, just to have a look, at the fittings etc. I was surprised at how tricky it seemed to remove the main body. To those that have removed their own grilles, did you pop the top clips, and then pull the clip, and body out, then move onto the next clip ?. I think i was trying to just pop the first part of the clips, and move onto the next one, before pulling, and it seemed to jam the whole grille body up. I actually pulled it out by accident, whilst standing up. My heart stopped, as i checked for broken clips, and paint damage, but there was nothing. I think i was being to careful, but i found it tricky. The chrome surround is easily removed, for painting, and i think thats what im going to do. Refitting was 2 seconds. Thanks, regards, SIMON.
