M5 size comparo

Having come from an e46 M3 and a C63 (with a Range Rover Sport mixed in) I had a feeling the M5 would be a big jump in size for me. That was confirmed when I did ED and sat in an F10 for the very first time. I had read similar stories here with others that came from smaller cars, especially when parking.

Im renting a Mazda 6 for a month as I wait for the M5 to get here, and to my surprise the size comparison was similar even though this Mazda 6 feels relatively small in size. It is necessary for me to navigate a three point turn when reversing out of my spot in my building garage because of neighboring cars, but the M5 just felt so much bigger. Perhaps because the hood of the M5 isnt sloped and you can actually see all the way to the end of it?

Mazda 6 M5
Length 193.7" 193.3"
Width 72.4" 74.4"
Height 57.9" 57.3"
HP 170 560

Should be intersting driving a car for a month with 170 HP then going up to 560 HP.

I believe that you are right on target. The F10 has certainly grown in size, but it feels even bigger than it is. I think that the biggest reason is the high cowl and the high hood line. I've driven a friend's 650 vert pretty extensively and it doesn't feel anywhere near as large, even though they're essentially the same size (the 6er may even be a bit larger).

Not sure I could ever drive an S class - im guessing its about the same as a 7 series, and the 7 looks huge to me compared to the 5.

Its big but man does it do everything so well. Usually I swap my cars every 14-20 months and I have no idea what could possibly fill its shoes. I am thinking it may be a keeper but what to add along with the M5? You need something so extreme and different? I use to think that the 911 would be a great companion but now they drive more like DDs then the 911s of old. The new GT3 seems plausible but I doubt I can go anywhere in the city with speed pumps and steep driveways.

Anyhow, I love having these problems

OP you will get use to its size, I was freaked at 1st but it grows on you and now I don't know if I could go back to anything smaller in a 4 door variant.

I'm looking into an M5 coming from a C63C. My plan is to drive one as soon as I'm able. How would you compare the size between those two?
