1200 mile ?

Just just took the car in today. I mentioned my front brakes were squeaking and to my surprise they replaced them with the sensors. Problem fixed. So can I now use launch control or should I wait until the 2000 mark? Btw...now I know why you call it the beast. Scary fast...

The engine is past the break-in period, so that isn't an issue. It's always a good idea to allow the brakes to become fully bedded in before you do a panic stop, but if you avoid those, you should be fine. I'd give the brakes a couple of hundred miles before I tried anything that would get them excessively hot IOW, you might want to avoid track use for at least a bit of time, but engine wise, no issues.

i did my 1200 mile yesterday also. I told them about the brake squeeling, they supposedly did a "test drive twice" and couldn't replicate it. I had squeeling the whole way home from the dealership. Frustrated.

Where did you take it? I just hit 400 miles on mine and noticed the same thing today. Brakes are squeaking.

Very debatable topic here. You tell me?

Mine felt faster.. like a boost restriction or some kind of restriction was lifted.

Absolutely does NOT have any change to the amount of power. If there was, somebody would have posted any type of documentation from BMW NA (and I never would have been able to out run a C7 Vette from 70-130 prior to break in service, as well as hang with a 997 911 Turbo S).

Early on I also had squeaking brakes. I tried the bed in process recommended by fellow members (not to a Tee, but close enough) and am happy I say that I haven't noticed any major repeated squealing for a fee thousand mikes (I'm still under 10k mikes). And I think the consensus is that there's no extra power just software settings that allow Launch control and maybe some other minor things...

I can assure you there is a difference in boost or something in sp+ after run in service, for me anyway. No placebo. For the three or four weeks prior to run in I was feeling like my car was not quick. I felt disappointed with my purchase. I tested in all gears and settings but felt sport+ engine setting did nothing! in fact felt restrictive when in sp+. I did do a couple of wot before run in and was unimpressed. Now, after the break in service my car feels stonkingly quick and now when I hit sp+ Throttle setting, the whole engine changes and there's a surge forward. This did not happen to me before run in. Perhaps when they plug in the ecu to reset service requirements it takes it out of some sorta safe mode??

Unfortunately I too have squeaky brakes now

Well my car has gone in for the run in service today...... The tech did say there is something that happens after they plug it in to the computer..... He thinks it unleashes a little more something on the car, but he did say it could only be an extra 2 hp....... I have asked them to programme the start stop to off as I hate it, why on earth they put it on an M car???? My 1M did not have it...... They also going to have a look at a problem on the gearbox as it stays in second when I come to a stop.... Not all the time but when it does I have to pull away in second.... Can't wait to get it back tonight...........

Essex I believe you're right. Although I notice no difference in any other mode I do feel the same way about the aggressive character change in Sport Plus post break-in service. The engine seems to have more of a bite.

I think we had the same discussion in past. I know there is no documentation to prove it, but I know there is software update and I felt some power release after Brake-in.... Car got more responsive and faster. Maybe one of us has to start a thread and ask other members their feeling after Brake-in service

I had 3 different people at the dealer tell me, during the first week I bought my car, to "make sure you bring it in for it's first 1200 mile service. trust me" type of conversation.

I understand the importance of mandatory service, but 3 separate people made a point to tell me that it would be worth my while to do so.

I understand that some people "feel" that the car is faster. But... I have to believe that if there was a power change as a result of the 1,200 mile service that it would be thoroughly documented in some procedure manual for BMW to give to the service departments.

Until I see any real documentation (like the documentation in the other thread regarding the margin of error in the speedo) I am going to feel pretty comfortable that there is no change.

Think about it, prior to the service most owners are driving the car very delicately. Not going full throttle, not going over 5,500rpm. Of course the car is going to feel faster after you start pushing the limits.

To me, it is along the same lines as people who say the car feels faster is sport mode vs. efficient mode. It does feel faster, but there is no actual change in power output.

Maybe sometimes dealers leave the car in transport mode which is only noticed during the 1200 mile service?

This hits the nail right on the head. The only change is in driver input.

How do you "know" that there is a software update? Is it listed on your service report? Most software updates take at least 3-4 hours: assuming they don't have any hiccups. There are lots of folks - myself included - who's service was completed in an hour or two.
